You know, when you ask most kids what they want to do when they grow up they’ll say a fireman or an astronaut. Since day one I knew I wanted to be involved in special effects (well actually, for a few years I thought car washes were pretty cool, and wanted to work there when I got older :D ). I have always been so hungry to get into the industry that it often keeps me awake at night with anticipation. I recently earned my degree in Computer Graphics at Syracuse University, and my chance is finally here.
My industry mentor, Bob Thagard (Sr. Designer/VFX Artist at Henninger Media Services Richmond), liked to say, “Whatever box you’re working on, whether you’re creating the client’s vision or your own, it has to start with a good idea. The rest is easy.” I believe that to be so true. Anyone can go and get a few weeks of training and learn how to push buttons and make things happen using Flame or Shake, but then when they’re called upon to actually design something creative and original they are lost without a creative vision. I am not just a “button pusher”, I have the solid design skills and the creativity that I know you expect and your clients demand.
Being a visual effects artist is exactly what I’ve been waiting for all these years. I have prepared myself by working professionally in the field over the past six years. I have the design experience to be sure, as well as hands on experience with Combustion, After Effects and a litany of other packages. I am sure that my experience and my proven ability to quickly learn new applications will result in a very short period of orientation.
Thank you for taking the time to check out my website ( http://colinjames-vfx.com ) where you can download/view my resume and show reel. I look forward to any opportunities that you may have as well as any advice or feedback that you, the community might have to offer!
Cheers,
Colin James
