View Full Version : WIP: The FRIENDS Hallway
DaMovieMan 10-11-2004, 02:41 AM Greetings everyone. First let me say that everyone's work on here always seems so awesome and I wish I could pull things off like that, but as of now I'm only an amature, not a pro. So my images aren't gonna be the total best, though I'm learning more and more each time I work on another project. So anyway, I just thought I'd post my first major interior model, based upon the hallway from the show FRIENDS. The image below is what I did today in about 3 hours time. There are no texture maps yet, just the shapes and corresponding colors that will be tweaked as I apply the maps. There are still a ton more objects that need to be placed in the scene but for now, this is what I've got. Also, it's not lit correctly. I included 2 reference photos so you can compare the real with my model.
It's a start. Critiques or pointers to help make it better would be nice.

haha Really cool idea!.. It's a good start, but the modeling/texturing needs lot of work! :)Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that's why they call it a "Work in Progress." And that was also just a little on the overly critical side, you could have offered some constructive thoughts....
Anyhoo, enough of my soapbox... I'm an enormous fan of Friends, so I think this is a really cool idea. The stairs in the back hallway and the moulding on the walls look fantastic.
Two spots that I currently see errors in:
-Either the back window is much taller than you modelled it or the ceiling is much higher, because if you compare your image to the pictures, you'll notice some discrepency.
-The moulding above the doors needs to be much larger, in the X, Y, and Z directions. :)
I can't wait to see more of this.
 Nice work

Hey gang, thanks for the replies and the critiques! They really help.
Anyway, ReBootedOne, the windows I know are a problem. I've been having a hard time getting it to look right, so I'm gonna keep fittling with it to see if I can get it to work. Also the trim around the doors were just a temp doing, just so I could get something in it's place until I could go back and finess it. The following images dont have much done to them, except the first run of mapping, the two air vents on the one wall put on and the ceiling slightly raised. None of the maps are perfect, but I just wanted to see how it would it kinda look. Much more work needs to be done, like the radiators, window blinds, fixing the window, doorknobs, the door color and the trim work. I'll post more images when I get more done.
For now, enjoy these. Thanks again!

More sutble changes. Fixed some of the trim decor above the door, the door color (which I'm still working with), added the numbers, peephole and door knocker on each door, adjusted the window size and even started work on the radiator.
More work to do. More work will come. Enjoy for now. Any more critiques are helpful! Thanks!

More updates. Blinds added, radiator created (still being tweaked), fire alarm pull box, Fire Estinguisher Box and fire alarm added, and the EXIT sign has been made as well. Tooling with the lighting a bit still. Just need to add the door knobs.
Please gang, some more critiques would be nice! Thanks.

flam00 is right,#20's wall angles away from the hall after the door. There also seems to be a thick wall column thing going up the wall right next to the door, right where the angle changes.

The only reason for me not originally making the wall bend over like that, is because the reason the set is like that in that particular episode was due to the fact that a full length wall would make it impossible for the cameras to film the hall. I was trying to add a sense of realism to the model by making it the way the wall is suppose to be BUT, because more than one person pointed it out I changed the model to reflect it.
Here it is.
Any other critiques?

You might wanna try vray for render. Looks ok but not photoreal.

Yeah, I know. That was the main thing that I hated, is how it didn't look as real as I wanted. Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll get a copy and rerender it!
