Hey everyone, im pretty new to wings (and detailed 3d modelling in general) and i was wondering...what kind of modelling would you consider wings? Is it considered poly-by-poly modelling? I truthfully have no idea what that is (haha) so im just trying to get some info about this wonderful world of cg...I've fooled around with some modelling in wings, but nothing decent enough to post. Once i get something acceptable i'll post it up here for some critique...One last question: When doing character modelling (and just about every other type of modelling), ive read alot of stuff on edge loops. Is there any certain way to do that in wings besides just cutting the edges and connecting the verts? thanks....

Mello! Welcome to the CGtalk and the world of Wings! :D

Well. Wings is a polygon modeller, though, it uses solid surfaces (Forgot the real term.:p). So, it works with a solid form. For example. Let's look at 3ds max, it's polygon method is surfaced. So, it can be like a sheet of polygons to build the model. While in wings. You can't have a sheet, if you want to hollow out an object. You can do it by making it a "shell". You get my meaning?

And, Wings is a box modeller. Poly by Poly modelling requires open surfaces. Here's (http://www.3dtotal.com/team/Tutorials/infinite_nissan/infinite_nissan_01.asp) an example of poly by poly modelling. You have a vertex, you add more vertices and connect them. So, if 3 or more vertices were connected, it would be a polygon. After you create the polygon, you can extrude the edges and exapand the sheet! :D

Now, for your Edge loop question. To get a good loop flow, it really depends on how you define it. Yes, you can connect vertices to get some loops going around the model. Making it good for animation. And, there are a few ways to create loops other than cutting and connecting. Like, if you select a loop and right click > extrude. You could create another 2 loops around it. And you can bevel edges too. There are many way's to create more loops, so, it really depends to how to model it.

Have a look at this (http://p212.ezboard.com/fnendowingsmiraifrm3.showMessage?topicID=135.topic) thread over at the official Wings forums, it gives alot of great information on Edge loops, for the basics. :D

Hope i was of some help. :)
