When ever i try to open up lightwave i get Startup Failure 212: Hardware key not found. My hardware key is in and lightwave was working before. What should i do?

Do you have a parallel or usb dongle? If USB try removing it and either putting it into another USB slot or replacing it back in the same slot and try Lightwave again. If its the parallel, shut down your computer and remove the dongle and place it back into position and reboot and try Lightwave again. If those don't work then check to make sure you still have the license.key file is still located in your Lightwave/Programs folder. Other than that if it still doesn't work then your dongle may have died and I'd suggest you contact Newtek's Technical Support http://www.newtek.com/support/tech/contact.html

Paul_Angelo is right. 212 means the hardware lock or the port it is in has stopped working. If moving it to a different port doesn't fix it, contact NewTek Europe Customer Service about an RMA.
