Maya, Mayaman, and Entropy.
Reposted since it was lost with the server going down.

Still a few problems with the modelling and shading (not 100% accurate in modelling, seat could be better, but I'm tired of this scene and it was just for fun and not a client). A "making of" will be in the upcoming Maya Bible published to Wiley and Sons in stores sometime in the fall. The Exluna website has a larger non-raytraced scanline render without the HDRI lighting.

Here's (http://dwkim.org/images/DucatiMontage.jpg) a bunch of test renders without raytracing and HDRI lighting.

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only one reply!!!!!!!!

Not up on bikes at all so I can't comment on the accuracy etc but I'd certainly say it's worth more than a look. I'm not sure the reflection on the tank isn't a bit ott and the front tyre texture looks a bit off to me. Handgrip texturing doesn't seem quite convincing either.. BUT!!!! having said that its still one of the better bike pics I've seen. :)

I used a Tamiya 1/16th model kit as reference and a few small images i found from Ducati owner's clubs. I looked closely at a 996 in person, but unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me.

More or less, the model kit and the illustrated box cover were my references for the model. I really wish I had my camera with me when I saw the parked 996.

The scanned model pieces (scanned on a flatbed scanner) were used as a a starting point since I couldn't find any decent blueprint/schematic pictures on the internet.

The model is 2/3 NURBS, 1/3 polygons (about 1000 NURBS patches and about 500 polygonal objects containing about 35,500 polys) in a 15 meg Maya ascii file.
There are about 300 megs of bitmapped textures and a total of about 250 shaders. NVidia will be using the model and textures, so you may see it again elsewhere.
