View Full Version : Does Modo import OBJ's .mtl files?
freerange 10-09-2004, 09:00 PM Hello, I was wondering if Modo imports Wavefront's OBJ .mtl files along with the OBJ file.
Thank You!

Yes, but only basic colour info currently. Which aspect in particular are you looking for?

I purchased Modo and I can not get Modo to import Wavefront .mtl files with the OBJ files. The .mtl files do not load automatically along with the OBJ file as it does in Softimage. Trying to load the .mtl file along with the OBJ file by selecting both to Open gives an error message for the .mtl file.
All I was looking for was the basic color information from the .mtl file and since you said Modo would load the .mtl file, I based my decision upon this information. I have not received my order with manual & DVD-ROM yet, so is there anything I am missing. I could not find anything in the PDF file regarding this.
Thank You,
Mike

You only need to choose the obj file. The mtl must be in the same directory as the obj.

You only need to choose the obj file. The mtl must be in the same directory as the obj.I have already tried that and I get no color info. Everything comes out 204, 204, 204 in RGB values, just as OBJ files do without the mtl files. That is why I suspected that the mtl files are not imported with the OBJ file. Both the OBJ & mtl files are in the same directory. All of the OBJ & mtl files were created using PolyTrans and they both load perfectly in Softimage XSI.
Thank You,
Mike

Hmm, it works fine for me here on windows and mac. I'll PM you my info if you can send me your files that don't work.
