Not currently.
Unfortunately not. I've even heard of couple of companies that could be willing to change if there was a demo to test modo before buying.
I find it strange there is no demo when the er 'dodgy' version is already being distributed.

Me too. For me the only really negative thing in modo is just that - no demo.

Can you say more or is there nothing else to say about it?
From what I've seen,it's looks quite good and so does support.Probably would it take me less than a day or two to decide after trying a demo, can't you just make a save-cripppled version.I'd pay for a demo CD as well.

He has stated information on the subject in length in a few of the other threads about the demo.

after some time mesing around with modo (and a numerous ocasions of crashing on me) i definately can say that program looks good and the workflow is great but definetely something needs to be done about thecrashing isue.
As of now i uninstalled modo and going back to max 6.Ill wait until a update or fix comes out.

It can't be THAT bad.

Now thats one thing I never thought 3dsmax was ....stable, about the only piece of software I have used that I could rely on top crash, atleast nvidia and lux have a fix in thew works, not just another number to slap on the box without fixing anything.

Surely not,all I found from him was;
No release dates for anything beyond modo have been announced.
and
I don't have any information on a demo version. Those are decisions made by other people

No Demo, but so much hype...hmm
No wonder then, why people said is spread on the internet already.

There is more info in one of those threads, but I cant recall specifically who it was anymore.
Search the "modo demo" threads. It could have been Brad Peebler, or another Luxology group insider that conversed with us about it.
This was in the CG-Networks interview with Brad Peebler article:
link to article (http://www.cgnetworks.com/story_custom.php?story_id=2409)
Brad: Initially we will not have a demo version available. We've heard everyone's requests and are looking into the possibility of offering this. I wouldn't anticipate a demo version of modo real soon since we have our hands full with finishing the product. There will be student pricing but, again, not initially. We do want to take care of the students and we are talking with schools directly about institutional pricing. We'll announce student pricing within the next thirty days
I don't think a demo will come until it's at a version higher than 1.0, and after an update when some of the most requested features are added.

Well CG products are not Hotel Items, to directly buy and use it by refering to advertisements.
Its really sad to know there is no demo or eval versions available for Modo.
This type of thigs certainly leads to piracy, that I really hate.

NO DEMO. That is precisely why I haven't even bothered with it. Luxology, I hope you are listening. I am 100% positive there are others who are taking the same stand and the only ones who are hurting are Lux.
Let me know when you release a demo and then I may take a look.
Cheers.

I just sent a direct request to customer support. It does seem odd that they would sell a $800 piece of software with no form of testing. Who would buy this on mere curiosity?
anyhow, potential (which it appears to have a lot of) does not = sale IMHO. Proof on the other hand....

Cheers. I guess you want a demo? OK, but are you willing to put up with a unrefine/buggy Modo 1.0 demo?
Its missing many essentail tools, and the existing tools are abit buggy. They dont even have a bridge tool(which i use often enough to miss it, i know others have ask for it and Luxs knows this), Smooth Shift is buggy and would break the extrusion at times, instead of keeping it uniform. Thats just a few examples of Modo 1.0 short comings, if your willing to put up with that, than more power to you. However, with all its knew about Modo short coming, is it wise for Lux to release a demo? thats the real question. I think it might turn off potentail buyers if they did release a buggy demo, IMO. Just think about it, from there perspective.

ROFL, thats so true, it hurts..:D. Id rather use Modo over Max for the same reason.

With all due respect, users know that point 1 releases are buggy. Now tell me if Lux is getting more potential users by not having a demo of their product?
Im a potential user, wheres the demo? no demo no money from me, see? In fact no demo made me focus more on XSi modeling tools, got so used to them that at this stage i dont even think in Modo, how´s that also from a potential buyer?

or
2. "In fact no demo made me focus more on XSi modeling tools, got so used to them that at this stage i dont even think in Modo"
BTW this thread should be entitle :"Why isnt there a modo demo" , besides what has been said about Lux being busy, i would like to know why there isnt a demo also, just out of curiousity. ;)
1. Some software released at version 1, might be buggy. But Mirai was never buggy at 1.0(it was solid as a rock). My point is its up to the company to test it ,before releasing it. Im not talking about graphics card issue, im talking about tools noting working properly.
2. lmao, rofl..i'll leave it at that, i know some people are abit religious about something as stupid as software and might get offend abit too easy.

Seems u did :)
I cant talk about Mirai, but tell me another software that was not buggy in their first release and i´ll give u a candy while u wait on rock solid Mirai :)

not at all, i just wanted to point out that not all 1.0 release are buggy. I guess everyone is so used to having buggy 1.0 release, they think its normal!
I think having a solid 1.0 release is rare, you best ask another DCC users about their respective software, if its buggy or not. I wont know.
anyway, back on the topic, why isnt there a demo? i still stand by my theory :)

What about when a 1.0 release should have been labeled an 8.0 release?

Hmmmph.....I get it
I completely agree.
I'm waiting (with 7.5) for a Modo Demo to decide if I will go Lux or LW 8.
Nothing has convinced me to upgrade to 8, but a nice ,solid, stable Modo demo could convince me to change modelers.
Shoot, the UI is sexy enough to make me want to use it :D

Is there any other 2d/3d program without a demo/shareware version?
A question to modo developers: when you buy a new car, do you trust reviews and opinions or do you want to try it, sit on the seats, look with your own eyes to the interiors and finishing touchs?
It's not strange thing, it's simply good marketing, do you know?

As far as I know...there is no offical Lightwave [8.0] demo.
The features this current 1.0 version are missing, bridge, bend, etc, will be added in a later update and if you have a suggestion, there is a post on the offical luxology forums where you can mention them and get a responce from the Dev's.
Cheers.

Actually, a little secret is that the 7.5d update will install just fine and work in Discovery mode. It's just not advertized.

Hey Matt :) Thats why I put "offical" because if you didnt know this information, one would never think to download an update to get to try it.
You are 100% correct though...unfortunally theres none for [8].
Cheers.

Luxology said they are working on a demo version. I think they concentrated on getting the actual app out first. They also have a revision of Modo coming very soon (bug fixes + bend tool as mentioned before) so they probably haven't had much time to get a demo together.
I jumped into modo without a demo, because I've used the products of Alan Hastings and Stuart Ferguson before. I'm productively working with it. Yeah, I came across a couple of bugs but no show stoppers. Version 1.01 will iron those out.
I like modo a lot. I thoroughly recommend it.

You can't tell me they didn't build in the capability to use an expiring serial number, they have other motivations.
LW 8 works in Discovery mode without a dongle also, the real trick is getting a copy (legally).

Yup, and if you cant get hold of an offical CD to install [8], to run in discovery mode...there is no demo. :)
