Hi there,

I'm dabbling a bit with 3DSMAX for a while now but since a couple of months been able to work with the XSI 2.0 environment. One thing I really like about it is the way the selection-method works. XSI has got a thing like raycast-selection for polygons (i believe Cinema4D has a similar way of selecting polygons). In MAX the only way of selection is by using the CTRL-key and handpicking every single polygon, or by using a window-selection.

Anyway my question is: does MAX have a raycast-mode for selecting polygons or is there a script available that does that? would make life much easier..

Thanx,
Ronald

Sorry I can't help, but this raycast mode sounds interesting, could you perhaps elaborate a tiny bit?

Raycast mode means that you can select polygons by simply clicking the left mouse button and holding it. As long as you hold the mousebutton, more polygons are selected whereever your mouse goes...in my opinion a better method than ctrl+clicking them...

Nevertheless....modeling in MAX5 appears to be awesome! Up till now the XSI interface looked best for polygon modeling but now the MAX5 interface has some similar features (like 'extrude along a spline'). I know the meshtools are there but i like it when things like that work right out of the box!

Oooooh. Raycast mode sounds really cool. Any way to imitate this in max? I really hate Ctrl-clicking.

Search for PaintSelect Script (www.scriptspot.com)

Yes, thanks. Actually I've just remembered Uzife lasso can work as a marker as well. I'll check PaintSelect.
