Title: Luma Boy -on The Desk-
Name: Vincent Guibert
Country: France
Software: 3ds max, mental ray, Photoshop

The last picture I've done for my book. In fact it wasthe first but it tooks a long time... I've decided to simplify it to have a more symbolic style.
For information, the image format will be square and there will be text all other.
All comments are very welcome.

weird. neat. unique. I like it. But at the same time the character is a little "busy". I couldn't really tell what it was at first sight, but kinda had to stare at it for like 15 secs. Cool anywho.

Like your stile! He's a nice looking ragdoll or something. Reminds me of an old childrens show.

Brilliant! Lovely style and colours, and a very clear symbolism as well as an excellent solution in terms of composition. Full score as far as I'm concerned

the lighting is terrific and composition really intenisifies the humiliating mood. Am I blind or does he have no legs. No matter, I like the shot and enjoy the ridicule

thanks everyone. Glad to see have my picture is appreciated.

It's been a long work cause this image is the 1st of nearly ten with this character. So I had to find a style that I could reuse after.

m0og0o : I understand what you meen with too busy. It was a big problem for me to make it comprehensible. On one way I wanted that we understand in which texture it was done, on an other hand, if it was too present, it complicated the image. Moreover I had a problem with the background which was nearly in the same tones so I desaturated it.

ervine : What you saied made me really happy cause it was the real sense of this picture; So cool. For info there may be some interogation points ("????") near his head for the version with the text.

bones : AArgh someone seen it :)). You're the first one. Felicitations. In fact I got a problem with my skin when I render and the legs went away. There are so small and so near to the desk that I didn't see it at the 1st time and as nobody seen it, I let it like this. Thought I will put him some cause he will have problems to go back to his home.

Great image!

This image really tells me something. It has much more above the techinque. It's good to see something in this forum that I'm not carrying about the rendering, modeling, posing or something like that.

Pure 3D expression.:buttrock:
Congratulations. :D

I love it! so seldom one comes across a 3d piece with a real 'style' in everything from lighting, modeling and overall composition, which is in my humble opinion where 3d art is yet so far behind traditional 2d art. you my friend, bridge that gap incredibly well, I also checked your moon-girl which was also GREAT, stuff like this inspires me more than I can express, please show more of your work whenever you can!

wello its nice, but somone allready commented that its hard to read. im with that guy. the face is really hard to understand. the mouth and nose are almost eh saem color and they tend to bleed into eachother. also the pose could be a little better, allthough this isnt my area so much, but if you could maybe have him rest his head in his palm instead of teh back of his had, it look liek there is not way fr him to hold up his hu-gantic head. keep it up -M

Hi,

I think this is a very interesting piece. I thought it was 2D at first, which is in my opinion a compliment since that's often hard to pull off.

The "silhouette" of the character is confusing, however. Like others have stated, it's kind of hard to distinguish the elements of the body.

However the overall composition works very well. In some ways it doesn't matter what or who is sitting in that desk --I can tell they are being ridiculed or "made fun of" by the others.

Good job. (And I like your other pieces too, in your sig)

Love the style, concept and colours. Original! Agree with one of the others about the piece looking like 2D and that's a compliment!

Like to see more of your work.

 i really like the style of it.. very Burtonesque.

only thing i can comment on is the floor & walls
which seem to end just a few square feet away
from the model. it would be nice if you extended
the walls and floor much further so you can still
see some detail through the shadows.

nevertheless, i think you did a mighty fine job
of illustrating your concept.

Nice style. Liked the Moon Girl a lot. The bump map on the floor and left wall looks to be inverted, also looks to be a repeated texture. Varying the texture would help.

Waoooww. So many comments...Cool !

I agree with all the critics about silhouette, problem to read. I have made many research to make it better with no real success. What I hope will "save" the picture is that there will be other pictures before in the book. ( and one close up ).

I will post a wireframe if some want, even if I don't think it would had a big interst

I know there are many problems in the picture (legs, shadow of the desk) that i saw cause I made a real big render. But I prefer to concentrate on the whole picture. I have many others to do and I will resolve this problems only if i thought it is necessary.

for billy_john_bob_jim he has no nose, it is just the continuity of the fabric texture.

For those who want more things from me, in fact I have only one other thing to show which is a short (which makes me really proud). At the beginning it was a 6mn long and now it's just an intro of 1mn. He has never been online cause there is no music and generic made. But if one day I feel strong... You can see part of it on my demo reel on my website (http://www.chez.com/authentic) (whiwh in fact is only one page)

This is really cool, I love your style, I also had a look at your demo reel and all I have to say is that I was very impress, it's beautiful. I love Les Triplettes De Belleville, it's brilliant that you got to work on it, and many others of course.

I think I may be lost or just did not look all the way, but what is it? I know it is a boy, but is it human? Oh btw I love this piece. Very funny.

I really like the style, it's refreshing to see some more stylized work. He seems thoughtfully depressed about the ridicule he is recieving. I'm not sure what material the floor and the wall is made out of, but that doesn't really matter to me because the image is so stylized and the texture is an interesting one. The head looks really really cool, but I'm not quite sure what it is (My guess is some kind of sack).

Nice work. It could be more interesting if there was some work on the shadows...The ones coming from the door don't quite match the shadows on the character. I like your cartoony tyle thaugh..:)
