Hey all, this is my first post on any 3D forum. This WIP lumberjack is for a 3D short for class. My first character model, sorry there's no wireframe, I can't figure out how to render one out. I'm using Softimage XSI 4.0 I want to work in games, so that's the look I'm going for. I'm pretty much a total noob to 3d, any advice would be appreciated.

Hi there,

Nice start, for wires just do a screen grab of you viewport and crop it in Adobe or some other 2D package.

i love the way you started your model, for the actual pose think that you want to model him in his natural standing pose except for his arms, so try not to make him look like someone passed iron rods through his arms and up his back, settle his pose a little, also his arms, bend the elbows and shoulders. stand in this pose yourself or have a class mate do it and you'd be surprised how unnatural a rigid pose is.

Look at the way this chap is stood:- see how ihe is stood, placement of the feet, shape of the back. ignore the arms of course.

Also here is a nice example of a pose:-

Plenty o stuff on cgtalk to look at to help, very important is to make ever vert earn it's place in your mesh, try not to waste any, and to try and make some of the shapes flow like muscle, cloth etc so that it is easier to identify.

keep em coming.
