Hello,
does anyone know the techique of animating the strokes in this clip:
http://www.cubadust.com/qb/cuba/motion/texelse/signs.htm

It seem to me that the strokes are made in Illustrator. But how do i reveal the strokes.
I think he uses gradient wipe or a special plug. But i dont know how to ceate a gradient following a path in such an accourate form.

Another Example is shown here directly at the beginning:

Check the plugin 3d Stroke by Trapcode

The easiest way to achieve this effect is by using a mask an animating it, thus revealing the line or layer whatever image you have underneath.

hope it helps you.

It's all done with masks. There's a number of ways. You can animate paint strokes and use them as track mattes or use the Render Stroke filter and there are other ways.

With the paint strokes method, you can simple copy the path that this shape is revealed along and paste it into the "brush shape" under the Paint>Paint effect of the layer. In order for you to do this, first of all you need to just paint some random stroke on the layer. The paint stroke will run exactly along the path. You can just change the brush diameter to cover the revealed shape during the entire animation and animate the Stroke end/start attributes. Finally use it as a track matte.

One thing that gets me is the fact that all brushes are round in AE, so as the image is revealed there's always a semi-circled shape at its tip. I haven't figured out how to get a flat cap at the tip of the graphic being revealed.

There's definately better methods. Could someone please enlighten me?

well, you could definitely use 3d stroke, but I actually think this is done using masks

It lookes like the strokes on the first clip were made in illustrator or PS, them imported in AE. Then, I think 3d stroke was used as a mask to reveal them. Hell, they could have used vector paint even.
