Hey folks,

Not too much to say about this yet. I started this rhino a long time ago, and finally cracked it out again and detailed it up in zBrush.

This is just a screen cap from nVidia's Melody, since I really don't know any other way to view a normal mapped model. It's right around 2400 triangles right now with a 1k normal map, and once he's got armor and and a little guy riding him, I hope to be under 3500 tris.

C&C Welcome! (comments and critique, no C&C Music Factory please!) And if someone can tell me how to view normap maps in Maya without directing me to one of those confusing normal map threads, I'd reeeeally appreciate it.

Thanks!
Brent T.

To view normal maps in Maya all you need to do is attach the normal map>outColor to the shader>Normal Camera, then render. Unfortunatly I dont know how to view normal maps in Maya's OpenGL view. On the actual model some of the normals from the map look quite hard edge. It doesnt look very organic in some places. I havent worked with melody but im sure there is a way to bump up the anti-aliasing, I'm pretty sure that, that would fix that problem, other than that its looking pretty good.

To see the normal maps in Maya all you have to do is activate High Quality Rendering in the Shading menu of your viewport ...

That's way too easy! I'd read all these lengthy and confusing threads and articles, yet it can all be distilled down to about 3 sentences.

Thanks for the comments. I hope to get to sit down with it again this weekend and paint the color maps for it. I've already built the skeleton and gotten him pretty well skinned so far...

Glad the tutorial helps, wrote it for entry level so it's real basic.
