View Full Version : Mattepainting: Castle
Hi everyone! This is my first attempt on matte painting.
I just had 3 days matte painting workshop.
I started with a photo (second picture). And then I started to extend the whole
picture.
Here is the result. The first one is my version. The second one is the original.
Everything is done with photoshop. The original resolution is 3000x2000
Here is the original resolution version 1.2MB JPG (http://www.area-56.de/pics/cgtalk/mattepainting_castle_large.jpg)

and this is the original

It looks good Goro.
I think the foreground is a little lacking. I would like to see something in the righthand forground (like a statue or other structure) carry up and break the horizon line, framing the picture and echoing the vertical shapes of the towers.
Just my opinion though.
Good work
Thnx swoop! Well here is the extra photomaterial I used. I could post some wip steps later
if you are interested.
Andrewley thnx man! I know what you mean. Well this is all I could do in the 3 days.
I'm finished with this one though but thnx for the suggestion.
The extra photomaterial I used...

Nice :D
Hehe, as I'm not familiar with mattepainting, at first I thought you wanted us to think that you had painted that entire picture :P Which I - how odd - didn't believe. :P Didn't see the second picture untill then. :)
Great job.
Does matte-painting always mean you paint something into another picture?
swoop: OK I'll post some wip stuff then! Have to prepare it first.
Lonely Pixel: Ha ha sure I did not paint the whole image:)
Well Matte paintings are not only extentions of photographs. It also can completely
painted. (also with traditional media). But in most cases matte paintings are extentions
of real sets or photographs.
here you go swoop!
