Hello,
Has anyone in cg used the new Apple 30 inch cinema display?
I would like to hear any comments, caveats (if any)suggestions etc.
What panel does it use? Samsung, Sony Fujitsu or other?
Would using 2 Samsung 213T in vertical position give similar results and with actualy more real estate, 42' instead of 30'(27')?
Do any vga cards support 2 monitors, flipped to vertical position that would give a res. of 1600 height and 2400width?

the 30" apple display isn't available yet because there is no graphics card that can handle it.
a special geforce6 card with dual link dvi (required for the huge res, has nothing to do with dual display setup) should be out soon, and for some time it will only work with apple computers.
all the new large 23" TFT's are using the same panel, there is only one manufacturer (phillips? cant remember).
geforce cards support 2 monitors and view-rotating.

You could be wrong. check this site out www.3dlabs.com
The 30" monitor is cool but I'd rither wait for mitsubishi anti ghosting technology that will be in production in late 2005~2007 (thats a long time:sad:) until then i'll just stick with ma ol trusty samsung flatron.

Just be aware that the 213T has a 1600x1200 res and isn't a 4:3 aspect ratio. So unless your card adjusts for the altered aspect ratio, you are going to have a stretched image.

I thought the 30" cinema display was already out @ www.apple.com ... though it does require a geforce 6800 ... and i read somewhere that the 30" only works with an apple pc.

i could be wrong :)

it doesn't require a geforce 6800 it requires a geforce 6800 Ultra DDL (http://www.apple.com/displays/digital.html).
this card isn't available yet, thats why apple wont release the monitor either. even if it might work with some hi end cards supporting dual link dvi. (3dlabs?)
