im not sure if it works with the older maya versions but i export my nurbs patch model to dxf after im finished

In you plugin manager you can turn on the DXF export. Then when you go to export it should be one of the format types you can pick.

i could not find DXF export in plugin manager on maya 4.0.:sad:

finally, i found the DXF export after i turned on all plugin.
