Title: Mr Roboto
Name: Richard Lyons
Country: Australia
Software: Photoshop

This character design started as a pencil sketch. It has scanned, coloured in Photoshop.
I have been doing a lot of work straight onto the computer using the Wacom tablet (I’m fortunate enough to have got my hands on the Intuos 3) so this was the first sketch I had done on paper for awhile. After blocking out the basic colour I have added three light sources. Then use a photo of rusty metal to texture him up. He is still quite loose and has been produced fairly quickly, half a day on the colouring and the sketch maybe took a couple of hours, but my sketching is progressive so it’s always hard to say that you finished a sketch in an hour, in actual fact elements of the pic have been popping up in your sketch pad for weeks. Still going to tighten him up a little and maybe get one of the blades spinning.
Any way, love to know what people think and where I can or should take it from here.

Cheers RLyons.

this is one of my favorites, i would suggest some background because the robot is so good you kinda wanna see something more to push it into extremely good territory. The only thing i see is that the left hip and the left arm are welded together define the left arw right at where it meets the left hip, maybe a dark outline or something. Also maybe some defination in the lower leg regions. 4 stars from me. I wanna start drawing more machines, i love the head on this.

Whoa...awesome! This is really great work. The metal textures turned out great. The only thing that I would probably do, would be to add some soft shadows on the floor, just to give him something to stand on. Congrats...+5

Brilliant... brilliant... the metal texture really does the trick.
Wonderful lighting and really cool design...

But yes... a floor shadow or background would make it even even better

Wonderful design and lighting. Spot on  The metal textures really adds to the level of realism to the robot

I have to agree with the others and say that you need to put a soft shadow or something under him. Beside that I have nothing to crit :)

Wow, this is really fantastic! Your lighting is wonderfully dramatic and the metal texture is absolutely perfect.

I don't think it needs a bg or shadow, but it does seem like the big round blue light pointing out of the bottom of the torso should be lighting his top right thigh.

Great job Richard, I did a double take to make sure I wasn't in the 3D section by mistake.

Great work, The textures are really good (I know you heard that part a dozen times) The balance of light is just right and does not destract the viewer from taking in the full concept of the character. I really like the size of head which contrast really well with the prorpotions of the rest of the figure. Oh yeah, one other thing... sorry about this, but.... Richard is a show off, Richard is a show off. nanna, nanna, boo boo!! Now that I had that little jealous outbreak, I can say with all honesty "Awsome keep up the incredible work!!"

Boo, boo? (So I need to growup a little)

Thanks for the kind responses,

Noelt, Artbot; thanks for the feed back. Those issues need to be adjusted and I will definitely have a play with background and drop shadow. Will have another crack at him over the weekend, and hopefully post him again next week.

Thanks again for the inspiration and Gigem consider those delights accepted.

Absolutely great, good texturing and illumination. I agree with some ground shadow to fix character in floor. No other crit than that...nice.

Nice work maan :buttrock:
It's such design. I like your style.
I think you can build a society or group with that kind of robots. And it would be interesting and different from other robot concepts. Just think a while.
Thanks
Keep good working

First of all i'd just like to say WOW!
and secondly, if this rating system went up to 10 you'd definatley get a 10, but it only goes up 5 so that'll have to do.
