My personal advice to you would be dont bother trying to model a vehicle using Max nurbs. I personally found it very difficult to create anything very solid using the nurbs toolset.
Box modelling and SubD's are the way to go as they allow you total control over every detail. I also found the relax modifier invaluable for keeping all the panels nice and smooth. And dont forget to get hold of MeshTools if you havent already.

Hey Igor, if you were using any other application, nurbs would be the absolute best option for this type of thing. Unfortunately, max nurbs have never really been all that great. While the rest of the package evolves, Nurbs have been left behind, pretty much unchanged. As stated, poly modeling, box modeling are probably your best options.:)
If you decide to stick to NURBS there's a whole bunch of tutorials here http://www.webreference.com/3d (http://www.webreference.com/3d/) .
Scroll down the page around lesson 64 to 70 and you will find Nurbs modelling tuts. I think they are very well written so they should teach you what you need.
Good Luck
