Hi all !!! :wavey:

Nice modelling.
Whats youre concept?
BTW the bolts on the barrel rings don't correspond to the planks very well; some are stuck right throught the cracks in between planks.

Hey thanks ..i didn't notice that the bolts were off!!!
I am thinking of some mixed of a baloon and boat with small engine behind driving a dual propulsion like the one above(sorry no sketch cuase my drawing skills s**ks!!!

I don't know yet where this will go ...but here is a small update.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Are those box kites?
Great thing with the barrel engines BTW, keep that level of detail up throughout and it'll be an awesome model.
Suggestions? Hmmnnnn. Is it going to be a hot air balloon? Could have a steam engine instead of standard combustion and feed the smoke into the balloons (am i allowed to make that big of a suggestion?).
Modify the boats; they look like disney indian canoes crossed with an ocean liner (thick and primitive). Don't fit well even as WIPs with your other models.

Boats gone! Yes it is going to have balloons also...i will update soon

wow, that's a really big machine you're making! it took some time to figure how it all worked, which actually was pretty fun and fascinating, you're pretty cleaver :)
I especially like the way the rudders are controlled.
more details in the planks would add alot I think(look at mikael P's model)
anyway, great work man! :)

Hi Fellah, thanks...i will make a pic when it finishes to show how everything works. By the way i don't know the meaning of the word '' planks'' , i will check on mikael'P work to understain what u mean...
the ballons rocks , i really like all your model
sumatra
08-23-2002, 05:14 PM
nice one
i like the idea of using box kites, nice one , though their joints with the vessel although 'heavy' seems unstable., do you plan to add something there?
thn kalispera mou man  , pou douleueis?
fellah
08-24-2002, 08:46 PM
By the way i don't know the meaning of the word '' planks''
if you have time, try to make them like 'Mikael P' have (i.e add more details)
good luck :)

I really like your construction. Those propellers really need something to hold them up. Or are there something except the wire holding them? As fellah said, really nice idea about them.

Hey DimitrisLiatsos!!...this is looking really good!. Its almost like a water world fortress but for the sky of course. :) I can picture flying gyro bandits swooping in for the kill!! :buttrock:
I'd really like to see this one textured!! what else do you have planned??

DimitrisLiatsos
08-27-2002, 09:46 AM
Thanks Fetus23!!!
I have to make the small gasoline engine to move the barrel proppelers, some bags with sand for weight around the ship and some ropes to support some heavy stuff here and there. Other than that i wish i had a good idea for some funny characters to fly that thing...lol.

Dang, that's one mighty flying machine. How's about a couple of fruit cocktails by those deckchairs?:D
Stunning work DimitrisLiatsos! Perhaps it can be ridden by two laid-back dudes flying kites, while sitting in their chairs.:D

hey this is looking great, very home made, i would like to see a little more design in the wheel base area, its very rigid, and stiff feeling, but it still looks cool. if you could think up and bulild a contraption like this in real life you should be proud, and dress it up with flags, decorations, etc. just some thoughts, ptherwise great model, id love to see some color also:beer:
DimitrisLiatsos
08-28-2002, 12:40 PM

where are the plank details, where, where!!!? ;)
the only thing I suggest is to make a nice looking GIrender of the final image.. most of us will and I think it's hard to compete if you don't do it.. or if you really know your lighting and make a nice lighting setup :)
looking really nice, but.. plank details, now!!! :)

The GI to use for maya is called GI Joe. You can find it at highend3d. (It is free)
It isnīt a real GI setup though, just a fake one. But you can get pretty nice results anyway.

This is looking quite nice.
Have you found the hidden attributes in GI Joe? I for one had a real hard time finding the controls. Pick the sphere light group then open the attribute editor and at the bottom open the extra attributes tab. (sorry if you thought this was instructions for a kid, just wanted to make sure.)

Oh my, this one is certainly looking great. It seems a bit dark right now though. It would need some color adjustments in photoshop (mainly, the brightness and contrast and perhaps the filter Unsharp Mask) but then, I am sure that's going to come in the end. Wonderful work, I particularly like the base of your creation with all the wheels, very nice touch.
I am looking forward to seeing this behemoth that is even bigger then mine (:p) finished and finalized. Keep up the good work!!
DimitrisLiatsos
09-04-2002, 08:55 AM
:wavey: Apt Pupil ...i agree with u that my last pics are a liitle bit dark and out of contrast..(just started playing with fake GI) ..the next ones (which will be and my last ) will be more lit and with more contrast .!!!:bounce: :wip:

have you tried playing with the levels in photoshop?...sometimes works well for gi_joe....you can then ajust your lights accordingly...once again, I really like this flying fortress Dimitris!!

one of the best entries I've seen here! Excelent detail! huge machine!
Everybody was asking for you to use GI, and I like your GI renders, but I loved your previous renders...that brown hue was really nice.

This is a very, VERY cool concept. You even included lounge chairs for the leisurely pace at which it travels.
I'm very taken with it. The renders don't seem to do it justice.

hey,
very nice final! although I don't like the shadows on the floor. it would have been cool if you could exclude them from the groundPlane and have the shadow casted by only one light, but the model lit by the "maya fake GI proggie"
the rest is very good
take care
