Hi everyone,

Say I imported a video footage as a background, can I have the model to cast shadow on it in MB? Or do I need to do it in a comp. app.

Thx.

it would be a much better way to compose the char. , shadow and the bg in a compositing tool. the video bg in mb is just a benefit to get a preview when you wanna see your char. in the later environment or when you wann animate via rotoscope.

Thx eletronaut, that's what I think too after messing around with it for a few days. I just couldn't get a realistic/good enough shadow on the background. So is there a way for me to render the shadow in MB like in a separate layer for me to comp. in a comp. app.?

Or do I need to like you say set them up in the app. using 3d comp? (I'm using Combustion). This way I find it as hard to get a good shadow as in MB itself. Maybe there's just no easy way...

Anyway thx for the reply.

Cheers.

motionbuilder is just a tool for motion editing / animating... the best tool for this!
you have to export all your animation data in a "normal" 3d app like maya, xsi etc. via fbx.
You should only render in these tools and after that compose your layers in combustion.
So you will get the best results.

cheers
marco.
