Does anyone know how to exactly emulate a lit set with the respective light measures (in kilobytes) in a scene in maya? I'm not really sure what unit they use in maya to measure the light intensity. I have a lot of lights to work with and wouln't want to eyeball the lighting, I'm figuring there's got to be a way to do it, been trying to research it without success.

Thank you !

you can shoot some chrome balls on the set, and use that as a reference, or even feed them to some light-dome generating plugin - but you won't avoid manual work :)

Thanks for your reply, yeah I figured I would have to do work regardless (ugh), but would the chrome balls work even on a green screen?

On a green screen shoot, a chrome ball could give some reference for the lights on the set, but what you're trying to match in 3D is the lighting motivated by the keyed-in environment. If there are any light sources in the background that will be put in place of the green screen, then you have to eyeball things and match that.

Also remember that you don't need to match all the lights on the set - if you have a row of amber-gel'ed lights designed to cancel out blue spill, you might just ignore those and go straight into lighting to match the background image. Sampling colors and tones off the background image and using them as colors for your lights can be a good start, though.
