View Full Version : Need help: Mtor and Maya dynamics
flamedevil 08-13-2002, 10:54 AM Hi,
I'm using Renderman artist tools 5.0 with Maya 4.0 and i read in the RAT doc that the Subdiv system of Mtor does not integrate directly in Maya dynamic simulations, Maya treats it as polygonal mesh.
I put an illustration of the problem here :

Is there any plug-ins or scripts that can fix this problem.
Someone can help me please :buttrock:
Sorry for my english

If all you are worried about is rigid body dynamics, all you need to do is make an invisible rigid body polyobject for the collision and link it to the sub division surface.

If i link an invisible object with another one, this one become invisible too.
How can i do ?

There's a difference betwen hiding an object and making it invisible. For the collision object set it's visibility key to off. This way the subdivision surface is visible, and it's collision object is invisible. I'm pretty sure MTOR will support an objects visibility channel, if it doesn't, just assign a transparent shader to the collision object.

I understand, it's good now.
But it's a boring job if i want do a character affected by dynamics.
I have to do 2 object each time i want to do things like that.
I don't think pixar work by this way :)
Thank you citizen :)
Well maybe not directly, propably they've made their own scripts to do the basic procedure for them, but making good 3D is more or less a biiiig pile of tricks, so don't you think Pixar does the things somewhat "cleaner" than the rest of us ;)

you can link them with the connection editor
