Hi,
I did a drawing in Flash/Illustrator. Not too happy with the colors yet and the lineart needs to be refined. I have a problem with backgrounds I never know what to do with it. Don't really know what to put in the background.
Any thoughts or comments to improve my work?

EDIT: now you should be alble to see the pic!

hi, i can't see ypur image

as a general rule though, whenever you have a composition it's best to finish the background first---many,many good reasons for doing that

hope this tip helps a bit

Yeah the picture isnt showing up...

but i agree with the bg tip. Usually a good idea to establish a quick background at least for starters. Dont know much about flash, and vector, but i would establish some bg colors at least if doing something.. that way im sure the colors will align from the start... also help with the general mood you are trying to convey :D

By right-clicking, then selecting Properties, you should get the site address Totoro is linking from.

I like the vampire, especially the subtle changes in gray of his costume and the skull pendant. I'm not entirely sold on the yellow skin, but it works well with the green background. The idea is very cool, but I agree that the background looks unfinished. My suggestion is to figure out the background elements before placing your text. You might consider an enormous glass of tomato juice directly behind Dracula so you've got a nice black on red effect. Once that key element is in place you can put a tomato in each corner. You might also consider adding a line at bottom like "Brought to you by the Tomato Advisory Council" (an idea lifted from Garrison Keillor). Or how about, "Blood is thicker than water, but tomato juice is thicker than both".

Keep working on this. It's definitely worth it.

Very nice character! I like the style. :D

Some crits: maybe you should try an other bg color, red, orange or yellow and combine it with some subtile shapes in tranparancy, for example bats or something. But I guess this is targeted at kids?
Maybe you should at something in the background, not only one single color.

Yeah, keep working on this, worth it!

Thanks for the crits guys. I'll keep that in mind about the compostion (not my strongest point)

Ilikesoup: yeah I haven't decided what colours I'll be using. But for now it looks ok. This is actually a character I came up with for a short I want to make. I thought it would be nice to make sort of advertising for tomato juice.

It looks better now with the little bats. Nice bats. :) It seems like the tomatos are just pasted there... maybe you should try to integrate it more with the design.
The new typo looks nice, but I think that the first one was 'stronger' and more clear. But its a nice font "juice".
