View Full Version : Max 5 network deployment
dvornik 08-13-2002, 07:14 AM We are supposed to get Max 5 next week and we are on a very tight schedule to deploy it across all our machines. Discreet asked us which license we prefer, c-dilla or Flexlm, so we're supposed to get flexlm unless they screw up.
Are there any issues you are aware of? Like, I suppose you can't run 4.2 and 5 at the same time, right? With Viz you can for instance. Or any other conflicts, problems etc? Maxtreme issues?
Thanks.

You can run 4.2 and 5 simultaneously. I'm not familiar with Max's version of FlexLM, but if it's a network floating license server, where you are going to have one machine serving all the licenses, there a couple things to worry about. Make sure you have enough licenses, and make sure only users who are supposed to use Max have access to them. I used to work a place where I'd come back from lunch and not be able to run PA because all the licenses were checked out. Make sure you have a back up license server ready at all times. If your license server goes down, then nobody can use Max.

Thanks. I'm not sure how to go about the backup server. I think there's a way to set up redundant servers, but it would be a different licensing process from the beginning. We run one already for viz and have to transfer license file for Maya from our old server and add Max license to it.
Good thing we can run 4 and 5 together - that's kind of a backup.

Maxtreme 4.00.21 doesn't display straight lines in the SRT manipulators correctly.
Also it doesn't display the the floating coordinate thingamabob when rotating.
...if that makes any sense which it probably doesn't.

Hmm... I'm more of a tech guy. Does this mean it's better not to use Maxtreme for max5? We had some problems with maxtreme and max4 before. Our best cards are Quadro2 pro, unfortunately.
