Hi, its again me, again with my mouse, again out of my hotel-reception-office :)

Today I think I did a little better with this mouse... hope you can recognise him?
I mean at least in Episode 1+2 he was our hero :D

30 min / painter / wacom ~ update: +30 min = total 1hr / added more shading and a "background"

I apologize if this is offensive to anyone in anyway. If so please tell me and I will remove it immediately. I am just expressing a feeling and idea with this piece. This isnt to cut down any belief or religion.

I didnt have much time for todays sketch but I felt this fit too well to not sketch and post.

I think that the people that do this are heros in their own mind and maybe the minds of their peers, but I dont feel so. I feel they are misguided and could be putting their minds to better ways of expressing their feelings. I could go on but this isnt the place. Just my reasoning behind this picture.

j_Grieve -- Great, Makes me laugh every time I look at it. Just Great.

Supervlieg -- Great mood, Really feels confused.

Jasel -- Excellent gesture in the hero character.

MustardWash -- That is a good one. I would love to see this one with great lighting (airplane of course)

Noc -- Another one that makes me chuckle. The kid really looks like harry potter. (Maybe that's every drawing that has a kid with glasses now)

thebigxer -- very dramatic. Reminds me of the eminem video for some reason.

Novacaine -- Great, Yet... Simple. I had the same Idea, but I wanted to do both of the candidates (since it is Hero's (plural)).

Octothreat -- I like it, I just can't figure our what is going on?

robinayles -- You just had to do robin, ey. Your work is really improving...Keep it up. This one really feels complete to me.

Nice one Malcom, reminds me of the lyrics of the Public Enemy song, Black Steel

I got a letter from the government
The other day
I Opened and read it
It said they were suckers
They wanted me for the army or whatever
Picture me given' a damn -- I said never
Here is a land that never gave a damn
About a brother like me and myself
Because they never did
I wasn't wit' it, but just that very minute...
It occured to me
The suckers had authority
Cold sweatin' as I dwell in my cell
How long has it been?
They got me sittin' in the state pen
I gotta get out -- but that thought was thought before
I contemplated a plan on the cell floor
I'm not a fugitive on the run
But a brother like me begun -- to be another one
Public enemy servin' time -- they drew the line y'all
To criticize me some crime -- never the less
They could not understand that I'm a Black man
And I could never be a veteran
On the strength, the situation's unreal
I got a raw deal, now I'm lookin for the steel

Meta_Nerd & elmasfeo - thanks for the compliments and crits! I thought about doing more shading or outlining, but I thought it looked pretty good sort of flat and comic book-ish. I think I have a tendancy to overwork my sketches, I start trying to go for ultra-realism when a less fussy piece would be better. I'm still learning the tools and often get frustrated when I know how I'd do it with pencil or with watercolors, etc. but just can't get the look I want in PS. That is why this group is so fantastic though. It gives me a reason to practice every day and get great crits and tips!

Thanks again.

Heeey, here am I...! :)

First: Roozelle and Art2, great art you made! :)

From yesterday I have my very own pentablet; a Medion MD41217, a bit bigger than an A4, and it works very well! :D Its great to work on! Bytheway, the tablet was only 30 Euro :scream: , at the 'Aldi' (in Netherlands)... :) I'd recommend it to you all :)

Heres my first 'real' tablet job:

- about 20 minutes for both
- used ArtRage and CorelDRAW (resizing & txt add)
- Medion Graphical Pen Tablet
- It shows a fireman who's misguided, not to the WTC but to the other way... I drew it twice with the same subject, but the last one is the best (the real one), the first is just to also show you ;)
(Don't think it's like a joke about 9-11, I'm still really shocked about what happend there :( )

http://members.lycos.nl/oldentower/bestanden/Sketch117_Heros.jpg

And a bigger one of that last:

http://members.lycos.nl/oldentower/bestanden/Sketch117_Heros_alleen%20beste.jpg

Now I've a tablet, I'll more often participate this (with every time better stuff ;) )

Hahahah...I'm sorry. At first glance I thought it was George Lucas in a jedi cloak and a utility belt! How fitting.

Haha.... now that I take a second look at it, it does look like Gorge Lucas in a jedi cloak. That would also fit nicely into the "misguided hero" topic. :D

sagi_13 : hehe... simple and to the point is right, I like the expression too.
tuxx : good idea. I didnt even think of Darth Vader when I was thinking about the topic. Very fitting when you think about episodes 1,2, & the end of 6. Good use of mouse.
eldee : thanks for the comment. good use of color and composition. I like it alot.
J_Grieve : lol :applause: funny. I hope he doesnt have a heightened sense of smell.
Supervlieg : Great as always. I was thinking along the same lines at first but just couldnt get it down on paper.
Jasel : hard decisions. Id go for the damsel in distress. :)
meta_Nerd : Very cool. I always enjoy your work meta_Nerd.
Noc : Hahaha... funny. It took me a sec to see the second guy behind the hall monitor.
thebigxer : I agree with malcolmvexxed on the perspective. Great pic. I feel sorry for the kid.
malcolmvexxed : great start and nice interpretation of the topic. I would love to see it get finished.
Novacaine : good likeness.
Octothreat : nice pic. I was hopeing someone would do a medieval theme.**
robinayles : nice play on your name. your lines are looking cleaner, did those tips ever help?
zem : I like that yours has a little story behind it. poor guys. Id feel like a schmuck.
Xanthan Gum : yeah, good luck finding your way on that subway. good pic.
Art2 : I dig your style Art! funny expression
elmasfeo : ya know I always wondered if that ever happened to him. gotta be embarassing.
drawMonger : thats a really cool picture. I dont get it, but I guess I should read the link you posted.
roozelle : Roozelle, the resident funny man! :D Poor kid, he needs someone to rescue him from her.
Dutchman : I like the second better also. Looks like he might be running away on purpose though. :argh:

Yes, the tips helped A LOT! Working at the higher res then scaling down has made an amazing difference, especially when zooming in for details. I can't thank you enough for sharing the tips with me! I'm still working on technique to get to a point where I'm fairly satisfied, then I want to try to imitate other styles just for fun like I've seen some others do.

Cheers, and I hope everyone has a relaxing weekend!

This needs some explaining: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/ilikesoup2/Christ.jpg
"Misguided" reminded me of a scene from the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar"--
Christ is on trial for the blasphemy of saying he is the Son of God.
Throughout the trial, Christ offers no words in his own defense because he knows the sacrifice he needs to make. Here, Pontius Pilate doesn't want to convict Christ, so he tries to reason with the crowd who want Christ crucified:

I see no reason--I find no evil
This man is harmless so why does he upset you?
He's just misguided--thinks he's important
But to keep you vultures happy I shall flog him

It's just an interesting viewpoint--many people believed in the wisdom of Christ's words, but many feared the trouble he'd cause if the Romans thought he was potting a revolt, and close friends thought him extreme for wanting to martyr himself. Of course he wasn't misguided, but many thought he was.

Struggled with this for 2 or 3 hours on wacom+ps. Perspective, background, clothing, who to put into the picture. . .I struggled with it all. Not sure what guards wore at trial so I just made up a little S&M costume for him.

I think it tells a great story, the explanation does help tho. My only crit is that you might have moved the guard and Jesus up a little closer to Pilate, the dead space in the middle bugs me some - plus makes me have to scroll up and down to see it all. Nice work!

Thx for the comment. This one was a nightmare to block out. Didn't know what a Roman courtroom would look like and I found very few reference pics. Was originally horizontal, then I nudged Jesus to the right and cropped off the sides. Not sure if it's obvious, but the dead space (the darker brown) is actually the wall of a pit with stairs to the right. I didn't want to make it easy for prisonners to run up and punch Pilate if they felt like it. It's lots of solid color though with few details, so I should have posted a smaller image.
