View Full Version : Above and beyond: Character/vehicle - Norante
Norante 08-13-2002, 04:12 AM Well, this would be my first attempt at the Challenges.
I was in a shop today, and while the attendant wold take ages to bring my card back, I found a pen over her desk and a flyer... and thought.. Why not try it? So i sketched this one, and I´m in hopes of developing it for modeling... or else, keep it 2D. I dont know.
I just hope I can finish it in time

Took ages to get your card back!!!
If you get your bank account emptied at least we get a cool concept.
Do keep that great worried expression.

Hey, thanks for the replys. I will work on it, hehehehehehe.
Actually, I did this pretty fast, after waiting for her for almost 20 minutes. My patience was growing thin.. and I needed something to get distracted or else....
Updates soon!

If you can translate the "fear" expression in 3D I don't see why you shouldn't model it :D

Alright.. I had some time and started modeling the head. Critics are welcome, since this is my first contest, and I´m just beggining with Maya.

Hey guys, thank you so much for the comments. I will give a try at modeling the whole concept, for sure. It's really funny.
Ok, I have some updates on his "flying" machine. I would never dare to ride such a rocket, but our character here is a bold man..... not!!
There you go, please feel free to comment :wip: :wip:

Like the look of the "nails or rivets" in the cone being uneven...very cool. Makes it look more like a piece o' @$#! homemade contraption:applause: , very, very cool! Can't wait to see this finished:drool: !!!!!!!

Update time!
Well, I didn´t had much time, but I started the body. It´s incomplete, as you can notice, but I´d rather have a full model to refine later than keep adding detail in separate parts.
Feel free to give critics - chop them down!:wip:

This is looking excellent, so funny.
One crit: His body looks a little female, perhaps reduce the waist a little.
CactusJack
08-22-2002, 12:50 AM
my thoughts as well, looks a little girly. i think you should also exaggerate the size of his feet some more...but looking great:thumbsup:
Norante

Thank you. I will fix those problems soon. (poor guy.. looking like a girl... hehehehe)

People on this board are very creative:wip: :wip: :wip:

Yeah, he is looking abit girly.. I was worried about his pants' form, and I expanded his waist too much, but that won't be a problem. I was wondering if I should model his clothing separate and put dynamics on it, or keep it a simple mesh..
Anyway, I dont have a clue for the heavy smoke that comes out of the rocket yet.. so any hint would be most helpful.
Cheers:beer:

Keep going with it.. it's looking good. I'm in the same boat as you.. wondering if I should keep going or not, but hey.. why not right? I consider it a learning experience.
Besides, your model is looking good!

Well, here is a small update. I (hopefully) fixed the problems that you pointed out. I also modeled his legs, feet(needs work) and the sandals.

Looking goooood...!
My only critique right now, would be to maybe define the knee area in the leg better or different...seems like the crease goes all the way aroung the leg...looks kind of odd to me...but i might be way off...
Maybe...its just because your using Maya...doh!...Just Kidding!
Your doing awsome...keep er' going!

Your rocket is fabulous.. Which render engine are you using? Maya native or some GI, Mental Ray maybe?
Keep your good work!!!!
Norante
08-23-2002, 01:26 PM
Hehe, thanks guys.
I'm fixing the probs soon enough. I think I will get rid of his pants, and make them as a separate mesh. The jersey is coming togheter.
@ CactusJack: You are right about the crease. I was thinking of keeping that, so when I bend his knees, they took a stretched form in the front. But I think the better will be a separate mesh for the clothing.
@Ninja Scroll: Brasileiro sem Havaianas? Existe não, sô!!
@Tuba3D: Valeu cara. To usando um MEL freeware chamado GI_Joe. Se tiver interesse, te passo. Simples de usar, mas de vez em quando fica lerdo pra caramba.
Thanks again people!

Ok, I'm sorry for that:
"Brasileiro sem Havaianas? Existe não, sô!!"= A brazilian without havaianas (a brand of brazilian sandals) , is not a brazilian, isnt 't?
"Valeu cara. To usando um MEL freeware chamado GI_Joe. Se tiver interesse, te passo. Simples de usar, mas de vez em quando fica lerdo pra caramba" = Thank you. I'm using a MEL script named GI_Joe. If you have interst, I can send it to you. It's simple to use, but sometimes it goes slwo as hell."
Thats the translations, in the next posts, I will try to be more cosmopolitan

Allright!!! Great work Norante! :buttrock:
Great idea to take a dustbin for a fueltank. Maybe put in a broomstick or a mob as a tail, like the stick that comes out of a piece of firework. It won't fly in a straight line otherwise.
Nice character aswell
Cheers, jeroentje

Yeah, I will be adding any kind os stabilizer to his rocket.
Thank you for the suggestion.

09-04-2002, 03:07 AM
Well, so there is an update... I have a lot of tweaking to do in this model, and have to figure out how to rig it to pose him, like in the concept sketch... I hope I can finish it in time :)
C&C?
Oh hell, he looks really scared! You should show something that makes us understand that he has no way to stop the launch, like an already ignited and almost completely burned "ignition rope" (sorry about that, I don't know the name in english for "mèche" ). That would be very cool!

Very terrifying... Good...
Norante, the expression of your pilot is something amazing...
Aproveita aí a expressão de horror dele e põe ele com as mãos em forma de reza... (
With this scare face you shoud put her hands in praying form... Like ,hum... God.. help me

@Baal: Nice idea, really. I'm going to do that!
@Tuba: Hehehe, good... he better pray, anyway :) (boa idéia!!)
I will pose him like the concept, then I will try to make some alternatavie poses as well. I wonder if I can make a little scene and bg. Maybe I can sribble somthing with PaintEffects.
Cheers!

hey nice concept, but i see a really funny part at your sketch that you are discarting, make him look like he drink a lot of beer! maybe if u increase the stomach size(just an idea) , go deeper on the hands detail,
but any way it looks great, keep going :lightbulb
