Sorry I just can't figure what you mean by annoying doing it through max?
There are tons of ways to add a lightsaber glow. I would prefer to do it through max, directly tho, or use combustion. But if you are one for touching stuff up in photoshop then go for it. It's just personal preference really, but here is my quick view.
I could make anything look decent by using photoshop after to touch it up. It takes a real pro to create something strictly 3d or within a 3D app. I love photoshop to death, perfect for textures and such, but I will never use it to touch up a 3d image I've created. It's a goal to push MAX far beyond what it's capable of doing, and create the perfect image.

I think U could give a try to Pro Optic Suite glow .For me, it would work just perfect for something like a lightsaber, and it's easy to use (U won't have to do it through Videopost ;)).............Let me know if that worked

I just wondered Flypaper do you not then think that you should use whatever tools you have at your disposal to acheive the look you want in the least amount of time?
For instance say you had rendered something and it was a little flat it would be much easier to just take it into PS or Combustion and add some contrast rather than tweaking the lighting and re-rendering it.

That's a bold statement!

That makes absolutely no sense. A real 'pro' (whatever that may be) will only care how the end result looks, not how he got there. If it looks spectacular, who cares what it is rendered with or how it is made?
Take rendering a glow in post for example, very easy to do in After Effects, and much easier to tweak. Instead of rerendering your whole animation, you could render a test animation in 2 minutes.

Gentlemen!
Merely a matter of personal opinion! I was not trying to open the Pandora's Box of post production! We each adhere to our own set of goals and tools, working with what appeases us the most.
I was simply stating my own

Yes, easy to do in aftereffects, and yes you can recomposite just the glow, but you can also do this just as easily in max without having to rerender the entire scene. It's the wonders of compositing within video post.
As far as my bold statement regarding photoshop, I stick by it, there has never been nothing I wasn't able to achieve to a photorealism level..
The point Gentlemen, is that this was merely a personal view and opinion, there is more than one right way to achieve something, my goal is to streamline the process, in a corporate production environment, I use max and combustion to achieve my effects. For me (And only me) an extra trip into photoshop is wasted $$.
