View Full Version : Game Art Challenge #10: Nuke Berserker: The Ritual of the Berserk!
speveo 09-29-2004, 11:39 PM Based on the 50's 60's bloated style of robots sort of like Iron Giant, Gettarobo, Giant Robo, etc . . . I present . . the Nuke berserker. I wanted to breakout with something more geometric and stylised. :bounce: The pilot is going to be fitted into a glass capsule like area at the top.
This is the basic idea. Is there a huge nuclear warhead with spitifre style painted teeth missing from this picture? yes. What about the pilot, with his rocketeer styled helmet meets Hannibal Lector's D.C.O.M.F (Don't Chew on My Face) Mask? yes, that is missing too.

The story takes place in a world ravaged by a massive nuclear war. Post Apocalyptic no doubt . . .
An enemy to be feared. Salvaged from the abandoned wrecks of imperial class battle robos, and revived by the mechanical genius of the desert nomad clerics, the Nuke berserker is fitted with a Nuclear Warhead, and sent into battle (one way ticket) to return the souls of the living to hell!!! MWAHAHA!
The intention of the cleric is to destroy the last surviving pockets of the human species, no matter the cost. Once the human infestation has been eradicated, the cleric will perform the 'Ritual of the Berserk' (a.k.a Mass Suicide) returning the earth to its once human free state, and a solid road to recovery, give or take a million years!!
Dare we evolve again, to face the wrath of the Cleric? I hope not! Did the radiation reduce more than just the size of the Nomad Cleric's penises?? Probably!!
Who will save us? Who will rise up to defeat this madness!!?? Nobody!! There are no heroes in this story!!
Is this idea cliched??!! I think not!!
Wait for the next exciting WIP of Nuke Berserker: The Ritual of the Berserk!!
Just having fun with this one. :buttrock: Much much more to come. I hope.
crits/comments/ideas . . . let rip.
Cheers
Steve

Hmm... darn... you're actually doing something quite simullar as to what I had in mind, although minus the nuke and the 50's 60's look. I assume you would have this thing running around on it's arms. :)
I think I can make mine look different enough though...
Anyway, nice mesh work, seem salready like quite a lot of poly's. Got enough left for the pilot? :)

Looks brilliant. Nice design and idea. Very well modeled too. Whats with the hole in his chest? At first i thought it was a cannon, but theres a hole in his back too? Is this where the nuke goes?

sweet stuff, I just love that mechanical spine. However the hands and such can be cleaned quite a bit.

it is cool. I like it.
I take it the hole in the middle is where pilot gonna be?
And the way it stands on its hands reminds me of one of the monster in Wolfstein.

Hey guys thanks for the comments.
mighty_m : Thanks dude, glad you dig it.
lowpoly: Hey Whatsup!? The hole is where the Nuke is going to be, check out the update!
Andy_H: The salvaged imperial battle robos had canons as their primary weaopns. The cleric modify the canon barrel into a nuclear warhead holder. Check the update. :D
JoeB2C: The mesh can definately be clean up, this isnt the low poly version, this is the base for the hi poly version. I am still going to add tons of detail and zbrush this model. After that I will focus on the low poly.
spudmonkey: Hmm, its probably around 7000 tris + but this is the base for the hi poly version. The 4500 low poly will come later.
Here is the updated version . .
The Nuke Berserker can either ram into its target, or shoot the Nuke a short range . . . either way . . . it has no chance of survival.

I added the pilot, added the nuke, changed the forearms a bit, modelled the base, added little things here and there. I deleted one of the verterbrae because it seemed a little too low . . . if you prefer the version with 3 vertebrae . . let me know.
I am really enjoying creating bases for my characters . . it really allows you to get character traits across, such as scale, etc, that would be very hard to do against a grey background. I am thinking of adding some cactii to the desert area, and maybe a car wreck on the road.
The sign is going to say something like "Welcome to Hicksville. Population: Nuked!! . . any ideas . . let rip.
I busy rigging him at the moment, so next post will probably have a bit more of a dynamic pose. Next phase is taking the individual pieces and modelling in extra details, in Max and in Zbrush. Should be fun.
Nuke Berserker will return to a WIP thread near you!! Stay tuned!
Cheers

Whatsup guys . . .
Damn, sorry for the lack of updates. Nuke Berserker has still been on my mind.
I am finishing up my Nuclear Dawn showreel, and I should be done with that by the end of this week sometime, so next week I am going to be hitting Nuke Berserker hard for 2 straight weeks!! So Expect some major updates. I am not going to let the legend die!!!
I am glad everyone likes the idea. I have been playing Warhammer: Dawn of War lately, and looking at their mech units has given me a few interesting ideas. Don't worry . . its not going to land up looking like a warhammer rip off . . it has more to do with structural design. But Alas . . . talk is cheap!!! Updates are the order of the day . . .
Nuke Berserker is coming . . .
Cheers
Steve
