zbrush is an evolutional software which uses the Pixol technology(they call that as it). and what is a pixol? it's an upgrade of pixel adding the depth information. As a pixel got 3 channnels R G B or 4-- A R G B, how about a pixol? In the draw->channels, you'll find 5 RGB and Infront and behind, here's my question, why 2 channels are used for depth? I know this question doesn't matter for the use of it, but I thought of this question, I want to know the answer, anyway:)

At a guess I'd say it's so it can store 16 bits of depth information - 65536 values
If there was one channel it could only store 8bits - 256 values

There is really only one channel used for depth.
The Infront and Behind buttons in the draw palette are used to tell Zbrush if you would like new Pixols added to the front or back of existing Pixols on the screen when they are drawn.
