View Full Version : Poly Grass or Paint F/X
Orange Ray 09-28-2004, 11:39 PM I was thinking about using images maps and alpha maps for their grass vs. Mayas grass paint F/X. I’m sure its because of the render speed but since the polys are flat and are 2D how would one make a great looking grass that would be able to be viewed from all angles except for a top view (should make it a little easier) I thought about putting some in the front, side, 45 degree angles. What else would I need to do in order to have believable looking grass? Can anyone give any insight (maybe some photos)?

I've found mayas paintfx to be fantastic for creating grass and things. I would render it off tho in a seperate pass with shadows and the like and composite it up later. If its grass in the foreground then you can add subtle blurs etc for effect afterward :)
You could create some grass with polys, animated snapshot and a particle instancer but not sure you could get that nice turbulence displacement that you get with maya's pfx.
anyone any thoughts?
