Title: Environment -French Creek Novel Wraparound Cover
Name: Mark Evans
Country: United States
Software: Painter
I just finished this. It's a wrap-around cover for a novel that should be out in November.
It was done with the Painter IX trail using the oil and digital watercolor variants. It's a solid upgrade. Seems like they gave the software a tune-up. It's on my X-mas list.
c&c welcome.

Great painting. Love the clouds and mood. My only crit is that maybe the cars off in the distance just behind the van are standing out a bit too much. I would tone them down like the cars on the right edge. Great Work! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Mark,
Great work. Things I enjoy about this picture:
The detailed, well painted cloud
Warm colors, almost perfect palette
Composition
My crits:
linear fence, looks like exclusively done with line tool and it has no highlights
Good job!

Man this is a great painting. I really need to get into painter it seems like a nice app. My only crit is the fence looks off......like it was done with a vector line tool.

Looks great, love the sky, but one thing that really sticks out as odd is the perspective for the fence, it just doesnt seem to fit into the perspective of the whole composition.
great painting !
just love the mood and the colors ... the idea of the footprints in the the snow going to that old van add some kind of story into your image (hum..maybe I'm not clear...)..anyway..
great great great =)

I think this is one of the few peices here that I have seen that has crossed the line between a really good demonstration of skill and a work of art. Great job man.

I am wondering... was everything made from scratch, or were photos used as a basis? The clouds look like they were an overpainted photograph and nearby cars have some weird artifacts as if there was an upscaled photograph underneath. Nothing bad really, just my curiosity! :)
Overall the image looks very nice, though the lighting on the clouds doesn't match the lighting on the ground (which seems to come from a nearly opposite direction). I agree with earlier comments on the fence.
Overall this image has a very strong atmosphere (gloomy, silent, eerie...) and will make an excellent novel cover. Well done!

This is nice, i love paintings of destroyed things in a beautiful way but I have to agree on the fence being a little to perfect and the horizon is a little to dark imo.

Hello, Very beautiful illustration with good blow of brushes placed
well, can you show stages of the manufacture of the image your
reference materials
Cordialement.

Absolutely marvelous. But there's one thing here that needs to be done. The cars in the front seem to be unsharp, because of the camera focus. That's great, but the snow that is on that cars, is sharp. You might want to blur it....
If you cover the sky with your hands and look at the ground, it looks like snow. If you cover the bottom and look at the sky, I get a feel for summer. When I combined the two( my initial viewing ) I thought it was a desert scene.
That being said, it's a beautiful painting which now resides as my desktop background.
beautiful, subtle, ... uhm... err... hell! I lack words for this one. May be there no nitpicking to make on it, and only watch it for pleasure. Thanks
Superb work,the clouds are amazing.
Could you post the references you used for this artwork? (if you used any).
Once again,brilliant.

I lurve sepia tones :bounce:
The sky is awesome, but it gives a strange contrast with the sort of median-ized car lot.
It almost looks like two planes of existence. However this is an excellent example of crossing impressionism with the photo-realistic.
The scene gives a sense of unease and coldness. However the sepia blend comforts you and makes the picture warm and easy to absorb.
However the one thing that stands out is the strangely over-focused chain-link fence which draws your eyes to it instead of that which gives more emotion :wise:
But anyhoo... love ur work and hope to see more like this

I like it. Just one thing: The clouds have no depth... They seem to be painted in a wall...
EDIT: The light on top of the cars should be as hard as he light on the clouds or viceversa. Otherway it looks artificial.
