This might be a very silly Question but is it possible to render in wide screen ?

You can use every aspect ration you want, just type in the numbers at the render dialog.

Select your camera viewport and press CTRL-F to activate the viewport clipping so you can see what you are doing.

widescreen as in TV widescreen?

Widescreen is actually only an aspect ratio in tv that would be (and im sure someones gonna knock me for something)
768x520 to actually <576 come to think of it you could have a widescreen pic being 768x2 if you would like to.

If youd like to make a dvd when youre outputting the render to the dvd it would convert (not change though) the picture or at least place black borders around it so that it would make standard format 768x576 (there is a whole plethora of different versions of PAL and so on but theyre only annoying, and it 768 instead of 720 or whatever has always worked for me) but like i said, im bound to get flamed.

I'm currently making a video that involves 3d animated renders and real footage from my camera (shot in 16:9 widescreen). I found that using a 1.33 pixel aspect ratio when rendering (720x480) matches the video perfect. Although in its original state it's streched vertically, after I'm done with the video, I'm running it through my mpg encoder (TMPGenc) which will squish the entire thing down to a standard 4:3 size with the black borders on the top and bottom.
