View Full Version : Constrain axis in Tweak?
SheepFactory 09-26-2004, 08:26 PM Hey guys ,
Just downloaded the new version , I was using some ancient build to use the clacos plugins. How do you constrain to axis when moving stuff with tweak? In the clacos one it was holding down shift or ctrl if I remember correctly?
also the slide feels so much clunkier than the clacos one :(

there currently is no way to constrain axis in tweak. i proposed an idea in the wings forum to constrain automatically constrain to the nearest flat plane. the 'clunky' part of clacos stuff was that you had to drag in a general direction for it to snap. my idea is to work the same as now, but wings automatically snaps your movement to a flat plane, instead of the camera angle. unfortunately, not much response. i might eventually try to modify the code myself.
tweak is a really nice tool. i've just recently started using it. before i was using hotkeys. there's so much more functionality to stretch it to. i think messing with it is low on developers priority list though. they've got auto uv, and renderers and such to think about.

i was perfectly happy with the clacos tweak.
I think modelling tools should be a priority instead of auto uv and renderer stuff.

ah, I dunno... as far as boxmodeling toolsets go, Wings3D is holding it's own pretty nicely :)
and that it is free is just bonus...
The priorities are:
Fix any bugs left
Get functionality to 1.0, which means having a decent uvmapper.
Otherwise we think we are pretty much there we have some things we must fix under the hood, as well
Have fun (which might mean learn how to write shaders in an opengl-renderer), fixing slide and connect-tool.
Other (new) functionality will have to wait until after 1.0.

The autoUV stuff ypu guys are adding with each release always makes my day. The other day i was working on a local tv commercial and i needed some complex objects uv mapped fast. And by fast i mean in next 15 minutes, since we needed to bake stuff and fix some XSI FG leaks and mail it to the client in 1 hour. Guess what app did the uv mapping job in 5 mins?
I even had enough time to go through some posts on this portal while the FG solution was rendering :).

WOOOHOOO! Let's mark up another victory for Wings! :D
I do agree, in my opinion Wings has the easiest and fastest mapper of any others i've seen before.
I agree the wonderful AUVs should be improved but i really dont see the point of including rendering technology in wings3d. It should stick to what its good at!.
Hi all!
How can I toggle tweak mode on & off? Now I'm in tweak mode, and I can only see the wiev menu in menu bar. How can I go back to default mode? PLz hlp!
Sorry for my bad English....

Well, hehe,I used it for modeling a character to be seen very soon on tv so antoher one for wings over the big boys.
BTW:Everyone at work is totally intrigued by Wings3d,it's like,I used it in front of them, and they still don't believe it. :)

<< How can I toggle tweak mode on & off? >>
RMB will exit TMode (check info line at bottom of window)
I think you'll find that most people have TMode on a hotkey - which makes this v. easy (no messing with menus) :)

Ohh...I see. Thank you puzzledpaul!
