View Full Version : Game Art Challenge #10: Chechen Rebel Mobile ICBM
TylerE@fusemail.com 09-26-2004, 05:41 PM After the collaps of the Soviet Union, chchen rbels made raids on different nuclear silos around the country. After a fierce battle they manage to capture a single ICBM. They modified it, and now the worlds first terrorist owned nuclear warhead is mobile.
This is a concept that came to mind when I was reading this challenge. I don't have a concept sketch yet but I am going to start modeling it anyways. I'll post lots of progress pictures.

This is what houses the missile. More to come.

Almost final model. The basic idea is there. I am now laying out UV's to start texturing. Textureing will help flash out more of the design.

A good clean mesh, and a good starting base.
I see windows, but exactly how big is this thing? It looks colassal. Also..how does it turn? Its looking good. I like the multiple parts rendered seperately. Keep up the pace, man.

Ok the guy is just so you get a size relationship.

Man, that thing looks gorgeous. My only question is how does it launch? Firing a nuke horizonally (an ICBM, no less) seems like a waste, but it doesn't look like it's got enough support to lift it nicely.

I think laying out UV's is the worst thing in 3d. But oh well, its sure worth it!

Ok heres how the thng will actually fire. Now remeber, the big tube thing is not the missile. Its what protects the ICBM from the weather. And whatever, I may be compensating for something. Dirty minds, I swear.
Final textures coming soon. :banghead:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Good one.
Tyler I still can't see how this bad boy turns.
I like the lift, but it doesn't seem to be able to support the payload.

Ok think of this bad boy as a tank. A tank just speeds up one side or the other to turn. Trust me, this thing isn't turning on a dime.
Oh and in the final version I will most likely not bring the front treads back so far. That way it will look like it can support the weight better.
Still fine tuning. :buttrock:

Excellent design - very practical looking and all the machanics to raise the tube are a nice touch. Are modern ICBMs that big? You can get nuclear devices at much smaller sizes than that! Could he only obtain retro cold war era nukes?
Looks nice anyways - textures should look cool - what sorta look are you goin for?

Very nice concept. The model and texture looks very clean. Good stuff... now how about that pilot? ;)
Once again, good stuff.

wouldnt it work better if the cab / cockpit stayed flat with the tracks rather than rising with the tube? The folks inside will spill their tea!

Yeah I am thinking of ways to keep the cockpit level and perhaps a way for it to turn the front treads. Its definately a work in progress. THis is the only down side to making a model without a concept sketch. Lots of tweaking to be done.
The textures are going to be practical to a degree. The machine is designed for snow so I am thinking of maybe a some snow camo or something like that.
HEres what a real russian ICBM looks like.

i'm liking this entry. good to see u have it unwrapped. your right, it is The Worst thing bout this whole process.
looking forward to colors.
Great work Tyler I like the idea and design so much. Also agree with Andy H, I think it would look better if the cockpit stays horizontal and detached from the rising part. Keep it up and gl !

I like it, looks very nice. I hope the texture will be so good as modelling. My vision is with very dirt model :) . Maybe later we take all of them and create new fallout(I hope he will rise:love:)
Till now, great concept and great modelling.
