View Full Version : Game Art Challenge #10: Quadriped – Plasma cannon
Doodling in 3D, here are my first attempts to find an idea. This won't be the lowpoly model, i'm simply tring to figure out the final design.

Looking nice!
Your work has a really nice, blocky style and this one is looking good as usual.
thanks for the kind words ! I'll go for the steampunk version, for sure !
Keeping this blocky look with textures & gouraud will be the main challenge for me :)
Anyway, 'just tossed some piggy character in the vehicle, to test proportions ...

With the current design, the pilot can't even see what's in front of him (including buildings, walls, enemies ...)
'Still a long way to go :hmm:

Keeping this blocky look with textures & gouraud will be the main challenge for me :)Bevels, lots of thin bevels! Take that, Gouraud! Cool design, I dig on the pig guy too.

Looking great so far - i like the pig pilot.
I suggest moving the seat to the side of the gun - if you move it higher so you can see over it, then hell have a very black face cos of the chimney belching smoke in his face!
Its gonna look great if you stick to that style you know so well...

yeah, i don't really know where to put that damn pilot :) ...the 'head in the chimney' seems a funny option :) I like those simple things that tells stories, it helps when it comes to texture.
In the meantime, i'm trying all sorts of color schemes.

I love it! Really nice lighting style. I like the first pic with the side shield, though, as you said, the face in the chimney could give him a funny look with the blackened face and goggle lines.
the only comment id say is that the actual barrel is a bit odd - i cant say i know what a plasma gun looks like, but those pointy things make it look more like a missile launcher or something.
yeaah, smoke in da face !! let's try ! About the plasma cannon, my concept evolved, and though I changed my thread's title, it remained the same in CGtalk's database, damn ... so now it's more smthing like a "Burst Cannon" :p

Looks great, though its a bit rear heavy now. Also, the indent caused by the pilot seat would mess with the mechanics of the main gun. I know youre not going for realism, but it gives the main gun a much less imposing presence.

Looks great, though its a bit rear heavy now...I would have to agree it is rear heavy...
maybe if you make the chasse (that the legs are attached too), a little farther back (towards the middle) or stretch it out bringing the legs in the front up a little; and the legs in the back, way farther back...
Just some suggestions, keep up the good work!

Holy crap!
How did I miss this?
I hope to see some more work on this, it looks really cool.
I still prefer the one with mr piggy seating at the side with the shield in front. By the way, I think the smoke balls are taking way too much polygons. I don't know whether you have done so, but I would delete all the hidden part of the balls.

VERY cool,
y not just make the legs bigger or slide em back to deal with the of balance issue
