I'm quite new to this forum and also to lowpoly modeling, but I decided to give it a try.

When the nuclear winter comes, there's probably only one car that will work, a Lada. I've seen one start at first try, after standing 8 hours on a parking lot at -45C. To provide some protection I added a roof mounted 12.7 HMG.

LOL! ace! what an excellent combination!
Very well modeled too! Isnt it meant to have a huge cannon though? Tis no matter though - ladas in a nuclear winter is as post apocalyptic as they come!
I presume youve yet to add details like lights, doorhandles etc?
Looking good so far!

Thanks for the kind words. The gun isn't 1/4th, but I hope it's big enough. I wanted to keep things realistic and possible. A couple of new pics:

4372 tris so far. I'll have to try and loose a few, still need to add:
- windows
- mirrors
- wipers
- bumpers
- a pair of fuzzy dice

I hope that guy is wearing a pale brown anorak! It would go with the style really well!

You are right, this is totally post apocalyptic. Definately could take away some polys and still have the desired look. Especially some of the minor cylinders ( steering shaft & the verticle cylinder conecting the roof lamp to it's base). Also, as far as the gun goes, I think you could get away with it since it is about half the car's length, but thats just my opinion.

Modeling is finished. Next on list is rigging the driver for posing. I haven't decided on the clothing yet, but the anorak will definitely be taken in consideration.

4492 tris. Eight to spare, not bad. The windshield is hidden to give a good look inside.

That's a really nice skin, well done. You might add (or strengthen) a bump map, it would really bring the rust out.

Good job.

You could improve on this with either some more contrast or a normal map to make the shape pop more. Also, I'm not sure what those white lines are supposed to be on the hood and side of the car...they don't come across as anything other than an attempt at baking some lighting, but they do not look good. The front of the car needs more contrast or a normal map to pop the depth. Most car headlights when they're off have darker parts than your medium grey.

Good looking rust, I'd like to see more spray paint on it if the sides aren't mirrored, which they probably aren't at least for the rear side panels since you've got the gas flap textured on.

Anyhow, looks pretty good for now, just needs some more depth.

I agree about the lines on the hood and will probably lose them. The lines on the sides will stay, although I need to darken them a bit. The headlights definitely need work too, glass is pretty darn hard to paint.

The sides aren't mirrored and there will be more spray paint. For now it only has a diffuse map, but I'll add a bump map later. Here's a few reference pics I used:
