Wax is a high performance and flexible video compositing and special effects software. The idea for Wax is to be very general purpose and flexible in video compositing and effects, so that you can compose your dream video sequence with ease everytime.

Wax can create 2D & 3D special effects and can work in two modes - as a standalone application which would appeal for home users/beginners, and as a "plug-in" to video editors/NLEs which would be more useful for professional editors. Currently Wax can as a plug-in with Sony Vegas®, Pure Motion EditStudio and Adobe Premiere® and work for integrating with various other NLEs is in progress.

This should be perfect for student reels and home made hobby editing (though I'm sure you could do commercial work with it too...).

looks really good. i have to try it out.
and it's definitely for commercial use as well as for personal use.

very interesting seems to be the plugin stuff with 3d compositing.

premiere is still too expensive

Aye. I've used it a bit here and there. It's great for simple projects (Probably big ones too.) Though, my only beef with it is that it crashes a tad too much. :/

I guess the Windows platform needs something to match the free iMovie and iDVD software that comes with all new Apple Macs.

Wax is really not a video editor. You can use it as a plugin with other editing apps (like Sony's Vegas, which is what I use) to add 2d and 3d effects. You can also use it standalone for effects, but that might be a little tedious.
Too call it a video editor is misleading, and I don't think Satish (the programmer) would categorize it as such.
