Heya! Just downloaded Wings 3D a coupla weeks ago and I love it! Here's a link to a screenie of my first model done in this program (besides the chair that I made to learn the software).

I have a slight problem with this guy that keeps me from painting him up pretty.

These faces (one on each ear) are not connected wiith anything else on the model. I tried to figure out if there was a way to connect it up, but I couldn't find anything. Then I figured 'Heck, I'll just delete the faces and do that part over.' Hehe. Yeah. When I try to disolve 'em the entire model dissapears.

Crimeny.

Well since these faces are floating I get this 'A closed surface cannot be mapped' error. Actually, that error's how I found these faces in the first place.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try moving the vertexes before disolving... if that doesn't work, select the entire mesh and do a rightclick -> "cleanup" and or "weld" and try it again.

Well I had tried moving the verts and the cleanup before to no avail. I tried to do the weld thing too, but it just tells me there's nothing to weld. :/

With the cleanup thingy... is there anything I should be trying to enter into that dialogue box you can open up? Or maybe I should try to shrink the faces before cleanup?

--- nope tried it. Seems 'cleanup' won't clean it up. I'ma try importing it to Blender and see what I can't do there.

Might help, dunno...

Select whole object
Object | Separate

Then open Geometry Graph to see if you've got multiple objects showing there -
If so, select and get rid of the junk

Crimeny... I've been racking my brain on this for hours and there's a simple solution like that.

It worked. Thanks Paul

You're welcome - glad it worked :)

Have been in the same situation myself - one of the ways this sort of stuff happens (imo) is when you have stuff selected (without realising it) - and then use extract (for instance) - whoa.... - new floating face that you don't need...

eyeballing top left info readout is useful as it'll (prob) give you some idea that you've got extra baggage somewhere - as is doing a (trial) smooth, especially after a big mod, as this tends to show anomolies quite well.

Thats usually what does it fo rme.
