Well, it seems that mental ray does not like your image path name when it tries to write the rendered image to a file . Try to take out all the {} and ~s. :D

OK, I tried to reproduce your error and in fact I got the following:

LIB 0.2 error 291825: D:/Documenti/maya/projects/{}New_Project{}/images/untitled_tmp.iff: registry entry {} not found

- Great! :buttrock:

Setting my Maya project back to a path that did not contain any "{}" eliminated the error.

Did you change also your project settings in Maya?

I'm not sure if I understood what you asked me to see . The attachment shows a screenshoot of the project settings I normally use. It's just what you get after pressing the "use defaults" button.

My suspect is that if you installed maya with the brackets in your user path, mental ray is still trying to access something there, such as preferences. I'm guessing only but perhaps it would be the safest to reinstall maya after fixing the user path in WinXP, i.e. having WinXP pointing to the "My Documents" folder under a path without brackets.

You can also change the directory that Maya uses for settings and the default project location using an environment variable (control panel > system > advanced > environment variables).

Set MAYA_APP_DIR to something outside of your user profile (for example, MAYA_APP_DIR=c:\mayauser), and it will use that instead of My Documents\maya.

Make sure to copy over the contents of the old folder.
