View Full Version : Single Frame Net Rendering

Hi!

I would like to know how can I render a still single frame over a network. I know how to render an animation over a network, but how to render only one frame image file? Like, if you have a dual or quad system the render cut the frame by the number of processors you have and each one renders a piece of the full image. So, I was wondering if this can be made over a network, the server cut the frame into pieces, send them to the render nodes, they render the small piece, send it back to the server and it build the frame again into a full image. Is this possible? In case of Mental Ray, should I have standalone version? If I want to render with "Maya Software" or "Maya Hardware", how would this be made?

Thanks!

I cant speak about mental ray or the hardware renderer of Maya, but if you renderer can be called from the command line and the rendering accept a crop commando also via a command line then this shouldnt be a very big roblem.

For renderman Borg (www.project-borg.org) can do this.

if there are no options in the render-globals and it doesn't do it automagically, then that's probably the case. there used to be an environment variable that MR looks at to find out how many CPUs it should use.

WireFX: yes, I heard that Mental Ray has something like that. You can do that with the command line commands. Using a "hand made" process it's possible, but I was looking for something more automatic. :) Something you just send to render and it makes all the job (slice the image, send to render nodes, take them back and rebuild it back to the full image) for you, without you making it. Because, you have to make it in each machine, and then rebuild the image. I heard that some softwares can make that, but don't know wich are them. But like I said, it will be great if making an automated full process, maybe a script or plugin in Maya.

Shehbahn: doesn't have a manager for Mental Ray wich could make all that process alone? Something like you send the job and it takes care of it for you? Already saw Muster, Smedge and others, but nothing that do exactly what I want. Any other idea? :)

Thanks!!!
