ok so these light sabers are great practice, and i cant help it, they look cool i wanna do em, i wasnt going to post this, but i was rather happy with it. please feel free to c&c the heck out of me, cant get betterunless i learn from mistakes,

it looks pretty good! i think the saber could use a tad bit of grime or a bump map, the surface is way to clean. i think beveling the edges will make it look more real

i was wondering... can u acully animate it with the same kind of moion blur in the movie(no transparancy in the blured area)?:wip:

very easily using glow tools in most post software. Alot of glow tools have a threshold which would allow you to 'bite' into the blurred areas with the glow colours. render off the light beams seperately with lots of motion blur (maya's 2d motion blur is wicked) and then use that.

i think that you need a proper reflection map, turn the amount of reflection down (it looks like its 100% - should be 80%-90%) and i think some noise will help

and as to the saber effect, id love to know how to do it in max, id like to make a quick little camera run around to see how it would look,

you can create the glow better in photoshop, you can also have it animated but its easier in after effects.
