Hi to everyone... excuse me that my english please... you can correct me so much like.

I have a short project whith Maya and I need render with mentalray in diferent levels whith Final Gather...

One to backround, one to shadows, one to characters... And later compose all it in one.

I will like save time in render at every level, and reuse some background in diferents shots.

But I don't know how to make it for preserve the ilumination in the characters, for exemple.
Becouse in Final Gather the background color affect de ilumination of scene.

I think... Use a background render as background color to render character level... that I'm not sure it's result.

I don't know to make it... :curious:

My machine isn't so fast and need optimize as much as possible.

Thanks for advance!

I understand what you're after. I think that the most accurate way to do this would be to render a .hdr panoramic image of your environment, and use the hdr file to light your characters using FG. That should give you a very close result to that of rendering a single pass, without the hassle. As for how to do that in Maya, someone else will have to step in, since I don't use it. Hope it helps!

Very Thanks ToonMan... I will try this interesting option... I say to you anithing about this.

Anyway, I have curiosity to know... how do make this render the greatest studies of animation and digital effects.

For exemple... In The Lord of the Rings, they render the ogre in on level and later composite the scene with diferent channels of ilumination and masks.

Anybody knows how do they make?

Thanks to all for read my post! And other time, excuse me about my english! :)
