http://www.polygoo.com/deathtrip/comp10/2.jpg
I drew some of the things I plan on adding...
http://www.polygoo.com/deathtrip/comp10/3.jpg
- Gonna finish the front, the grill area.
- The sketch of the cannon itself isnt final, its just to show it position and size.
- The engine of the car will stick through the hood.
any crits/ideas?

A bit of an update... :) I decided to go with an open top so the entire weapon can be clearly seen. The interior is pretty much ready for a driver's seat and the rest of the weapon.

uh still no comments?
anyways, the body is complete. It sits at around 3500 which gives me a 1000 poly limit on the driver.

Recoil of the cannon. After it fire it will slide back the on the rails it rests on.

Reloading the canon. The driver's seat is connected to a rail, he turns the seat around and slides over to reload the cannon.

I suggest making the left side (where the cannon sticks thru) of the windshield broken and the metal edges (the part that holds the glass in place) torn.

Yeah I going to make a hole in the windshied for the canon using alphas.
I like the design a lot but what will happen when it shoots? I imagine it will wipe back the whole car because of the blast. Perhaps some clamps that stick onto the floor for balance and holding... Like construction vehicles.
And yeah the topic does not move up when people post here... That is pretty bad IMHO.
The main contest thread should be sticked and the people entering the contests should update and correctly.

Well after it fire it kicks back in its rails. I will consider those "legs" that construction vehicles use, gonna get to creating the driver first :)
Also I dont know why but by default the threads/topics in this particular board are listed by the order in which they were created not by which one has gotten the most recent reply. Each time I come to this board I have to change it to listing by "Last Post" to see whats up.

Heres the finished model...at about 3300 polys.

I wasnt too sure on what type of driver I wanted. I decided on a skinny'ish redneck/hick type :) trucker hat, dirty shirt, beer gut :D He came at about 1100 polys. I'm not too experienced with organics.

Very quick to get this project underway! The car is looking good. Like mentioned before, I was going to say something about the cannon through the glass.. but since you're using alpha's it's all dandy.
Cool stuff.
Oh, about the forum defaulting to tread topic... instead of last post... I posted something about it in the cgtalk support forum, and they said that it was a moderators preference to have it set the way it currently is...

I know - its really annoying isnt it? I hope the moderators change it...
Nice looking model by the way - it looks nice and solid. Looks like something id like to drive around in carmageddon (remember that?). add more detail and randomisation to it though - It looks very clean and precise. I presume its not finished yet, but the pilot could use some more work on the proportions.
Keep it up!

^ well the dirt and grime will come once it textured :D I did modify the topology a little bit.
I havent unwrapped it yet(gotta balance this and mod stuff) but I thought I'd make the rear wheels larger so the car is raised a bit. Which do you guys like better...

With the rear wheels raised, you're going to be shooting that cannon into the ground in front of you...
It looks dumb with the rear wheels raised, IMHO.

I gotta tell ya, I like the idea of the larger back wheels. But I just don't think it fits the current design. Like mentioned above, you reduce your weapon to nothing but a pot-hole creator.
If you rig up your cannon differently, I'd say you have a winner.. but at the moment, I don't think it'll work with your current design.
My vote is for the angled car, just different weapon setup!

I'm just going to keep it like it was.
Been busy with my mod but I'm going to finish this piece :D I was curious of how you go about splitting the mesh to a 1024 sheet and a 512 sheet. I'm using 3DS Max.

still need to know how you go about splitting the mesh to a 1024 sheet and a 512 sheet. I'm using 3DS Max.

Great job so far! I'd love to see the textured one!
Anyway, I guess there are many way to split the whole thing into 1024 and 512 map. You can put the whole car on the 1024 one and the driver on the 512 one. But if somehow you need to split a single mesh into 2 maps, then I guess you'll need a multi-subobject material.
Keep up the good work!

^ Yeah I decided to use the 1024 on the vehicles and the 512 on the driver. :D
anyways, texturing wip...

anyways, I'm nearly done unwrapping the driver(first time unwrapping and texturing an organic) and I was wondering if it is better to start texturing with a 512 or start with a 1024 then resize?
Start with 1024. You can easily resize to 512, and its easily to paint with a bigger map. If you start in 512, and if you decided to use a higher res 1024 in future, the translation will be very pixelized in look.

Hey cool man, looks cool!
The one thing that bugs me is that this contest is Post-Apocalyptic...
That means that were the cannon sticks out of the windshield, there would not take the time to make a perfect hole that the cannon to slide through into place...
I think that that half of the windshield should be broken (a shattered hole, or whole side) on the side of the cannon.
Besides that it is looking good keep up the good work...
