Hi,

This is not technically an offer as of yet. I'm a director/cinematographer/editor/producer who's just getting into buying a camera package and am about to start shooting super16 music videos, commercials, and shorts. I've toyed with Maya and gone through a little bit of tutorials, but it's not nearly enough to do CG work on my projects. I'm curious as to rates of CG artists. I'm looking for highly skilled artists (obviously), but I want people who are also innovative. Experience is not a big deal, in fact experience is for the most part discouraged since I want people with an open mind. I'm looking to develop some highly technical pieces from a photographic and CG aspect for good, quick recognition. There will be a lot of imagination involved, and artists would be responsible for decoding that into artwork on the screen. First jobs would always finish on video format. Willing to take these artists with me as I climb up to higher jobs. What would rates for something like this be? I'm trying to keep production costs as low as possible for the first year or two, until reputation builds up, but I don't want to cut people who deserve it out of the loop. I'm sure there are certain considerations, based on each person and each project, but I'd like to hear ideas. Thanks

Anthony

For film level work, if you're hiring freelancers with their own equipment, I'd expect to pay $35-70/hour depending on skill level and equipment.
