Caught me in an extra kind mood today, ordinarily for something like this it would be a few words and a "read the manual" kinda thing, first of all I suggest you look at the tutorials on the maxon site they will teach you a lot of these kinds of things.

ANyways I made a sample file for you, DOn't know if you have XL 6 or 7, I made this in seven and used caustics for added effect but for those with six it will still open just no caustics, this means faster render less effect. Anyways, look at the fdile closely, make sure to check the render settings and the light settings in all tabs. THats should be all you need to know, as well look at how I made the material.

You should keep in mind that there shouldn't be any caustic effect from a flat plane of glass. Caustics come from the uneven distibution of refracted light, and even though glass will always refract light, the rays would stay evenly distributed, since the faces that make up both sides of the plane are parallel.

you'll note in the image there is caustics, though subtle, and that no glass is perfect so all glass will produce some sort of caustic especially if the light is coming from an angle. all glass surfaces should have a really subtle smooth bump to it to make it more convincing.
