Hmm...If you could wait for sometime i'll get a timelapse i made for unwrapping uploaded. If i can find a host. -.-
Use the outliner window (from Windows/Outliner) right click on the image and choose export.

Windows Outliner...wtf is that...I've never even seen it before a screen shot or sumthing lol

Use the outliner window (from Windows/Outliner) right click on the image and choose export.
Dan just answered it there. ;)
Within Wings go to Windows > Outliner. A new window will popup, which will contain materials, lights, etc. Click on your diffuse map then right click and click "Export" Your map will export, in which case you can paint it for your model.
Then, you can import it back from File> Import image. Or, Right click your diffuse map again and click "Make external" And then open up the new external map, and paint it. After you've painted it. Go back into Wings and right click on the diffuse map once more, and click "Refresh" in which case, it will refresh with the new painted map.
