It is, in my opinion, a highly confusing piece.
First, we are shown that this grub eater is buried in purpley stuff, but the outer edges of the image are generally empty. So it seems like we are missing out on a lot of whats going on, if you made some kind of a border perhaps?
Also, the background seems to be much more detailed (in that computery way, no less) than the main aspect of the piece. My eye doesnt know where to go or what to focus on.
Just some ideas,
