View Full Version : Get Rid of Jaggies
shamonsflame 09-18-2004, 10:12 PM Hello All,
I am rendering my scene w/ Maya 6 render. It works great execpt for the jaggies on parts of the hair. The hair is made w/ paintfx. Any ideas how one could smooth out this issue?

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think you can fix that without compositing a head layer with a the hair layer.
Because Paint Effects is a post effect, it appears after the object has been rendered, and so no antialiasing occurs.

Oh I see.... Well that is lame. There must be a way to do it in maya...

Welcome to the wonderful-world of BS post processed effects.
Another reason to get into MentalRay. Provide3d has some great tools for rendering hair and paintfx in MR. Buy them. Its worth it.

I've downloaded them actually. I am in the process of testing their betas... I may be forced to use them.

Do you have multipixel filtering on? Also there are some options in the render globals for smooting out paintfx by double rez rendering and scaling it down.
dumb question, but did you hit the 1:1 button on your renderview?

Ha! Not a dumb question but yes, I checked to make sure that the 1:1 ratio button is correct.
Also, The jaggies only seem to happen where the hair is behind the head/body. Not when it is in front.
