Hullo everybody...

I downloaded this SSS plugin for Maya (http://www.lightengine3d.com/downloads/plugins/subScatter/subScatter1.html)and I am striving to make a semi-photorealistic skin shader. The thing is that I am kinda unable to do it correctly.

If I use a flat color for a texture and play with the settings, it works kinda nice (although I get a somewhat "waxy" look). Nevertheless when I add my skin texture it literally kills the shader. The whole thing turns dark and I get a "burned skin" effect (not what I am after at all...).

I try to play with the settings to see if I can make the skin a little lighter but when I do that, the complete skin is washed out.

This is frustrating because when I tried the same shader with a chess-board texture it worked fine. How can I get this shader to work correctly with fancy-textured surfaces???

I am seriously thinking on rendering a flat-colored version and then apply the SSS layer in POST... this is really frustrating.
