View Full Version : Tech question about my config.

I would like to as if there will be much difference with the small updates on my rig.
MB A7N8X e-deluxe
add cpu 3200 and 512 more ram, so a total od 1536.
is this configuration any good? I work on 3D max 6...but I'm just a beginner, but some images take a lot of time.
thanks for any help.

Adding a faster processor is always a good thing. Make sure your ram uses the same FSB (front side bus) speed as the max your processor can take. This will definitely increase overall performance. For example my processor can take a 333mhzFSB so I use PC 2700ddr memory. I am sure your front side bus will be more on the new amd processor you buy. so make sure your motherboard and processor sync with the memory you buy. And I think 1.5gb of ram is enough but I am a photoshop guy. Not into 3d packages yet
things you wanna look at with your ram is do you ever end using virtual memeory if not then you dont need the upgrade.
also your processor could probally easily manage a speed of 3200 i know my 2500xp can.
and unless your hitting the ram "wall" then you wont notice any thing

well its always relative
but yes you should see an incremental improvement from that hardware upgrade
however "tuning" your OS install could potentially match that
its also dependent on what your asking of it, but of course we will assume rendering
become familiar with the built in performance monitors in the OS
(assuming W2K\XP) Start > Run > (type) perfmon.msc > read the help
start logging what happens when you alter your config
say, you dont have a bunch of processes automatically startup
applications that are grabbing some of your resident memory,
see the Task manager (ctrl + alt + del) for running processes (processes tab)
and compare with these
and the actual required processes
svchost.exe (likely multiple instances a generic host for various aps)
System Idle Process
then there are optimizations like your pagefile\virtual memory
if your actually paging out alot
