View Full Version : Mental Ray Batch Render Problem
Peter Hon 09-18-2004, 11:01 AM I was wondering if anyone can help me with this.
Whenever I go to batch render with Mental Ray for Maya 5, it will start the batch, finish the first frame of the sequence, and then tell me that 'Rendering is Complete' when it hasn't even done the second frame of the sequence (I'm rendering out a walk cycle).
I do get the warning message:
Warning: Cache is not open. It is not saved
When I batch render, but it really hasn't been a problem before.
In my Render Globals, I have Final Gather on in the Mental Ray settings tab. In the Commons tab, I have my settings so that it will render out the sequence as a IFF.
If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to reply.

I have the Start frame and End frames set to where I want them (1 to 32), so please, no smart remarks concerning that... :)

You can try import yours scene in new file and render it again.

I tried your suggestion, freelancer-2, and it didn't work.
Thanks for the suggestion, though :D
Here's what shows up in the Script editor when the batch doesn't do what I want:
// Result: Percentage of rendering done: 100 (C:/Documents and Settings/Peter Hon/Desktop/Work/Maya Stuff/projects/New_Project/images/persp.1.iff) //
// Result: Percentage of rendering done: 0 (C:/Documents and Settings/Peter Hon/Desktop/Work/Maya Stuff/projects/New_Project/images/persp.2.iff) //
// Result: Rendering Completed. See mayaRenderLog.txt for information. //
I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Maya, but that doesn't seem to work either.
Hmmm....

Render the scene from the command line, make sure you turn on Detailed Messages in the render globals.

What I mean is, what do I type to render from the command line?
Also, I don't see a Detailed Messages setting in the render Globals.
Thanks for giving me a hand, Bill. :D

From the command line you'll need to type mayarender_with_mr -help to get the commands, it should pick up your render global settings if you have those specified. To change the output messages, in the mental ray render globals go down to the Translation tab and expand that, then change it from Warning Messages to Detailed messages. If you still get an error, you can try changing that to Verbose to get a more explicit output of where it is failing.

Thanks again, Bill. I'll give it a try... :)
